My mom is 87 years old, who lives in her own apartment in Summerland. She has an ongoing visual impairment called Macular Degeneration that makes it hard for her to see well. She is fit and healthy and loves to walk and talk and excercise, but slightly accident prone, and occasionally has accidents tripping on things. She has recently broken her elbow when she tripped last weekend on a curb, and had to have surgery on her elbow. This will take several weeks for her to recover, and she is uncomfortable and needs help. We are currently helping her as friends and family, but we need extra support. This incident is one of many incidents that has happened and continues to happen repeatedly due to her vision issues. As a family, we would like her to continue to live independently, but we are busy with our own kids and work, without much extra support. Ideally the person who works for her is more of a companion who likes to talk and spend time with her. She needs help with little things, like cooking or cleaning her fridge, occasional doctors appointments in Penticton. Small projects around the house sometimes need help as well, like changing a light bulb, or figuring out the dishwasher settings. She is showing early signs of dementia, "sundowners" in the evenings here and there, depending on how she is feeling. During the daytime, it is not noticeable, and only obvious as "sundowners" in the evenings to people who know her well.

Someone to drive my 89-year-old father to appointments

My 89 year old father recently stopped driving and needs transportation assistance getting to appointments and social events. He has a few friends who help, but needs back-up support for times they aren't available. He mostly uses his wheelchair, but can move on crutches (in a limited way). He has a van someone could drive, or alternatively a folding wheelchair that would fit in someone's car. This would be a super casual position, as he doesn't go out a whole lot. This would work best for someone who is willing to drive him if they are able to fit it into their schedule on any given day (and if not, that's obviously okay!). Just having another possibility of someone who might be free to drive him places would help tremendously. Thanks so much!!
