Dedicated caregiver with 6 years of experience providing heartfelt care and assistance to elderly patients in assisted living communities. Looking to deliver compassionate, service-oriented care and companionship to the elderly in your community. Greetings! I would like to express my deepest interest to apply for any positions that are suitable for my qualifications in your office. I am from the Philippines, and I am currently living in Nanaimo BC. I am a teacher by profession but I worked in Israel as a live-in caregiver for 6 years, where I assisted my employer with dementia and Alzheimer’s diseases with daily living needs. My first job is a caregiver and it’s been a while since I stopped working as a caregiver but the passion to work with the elderly people remains in my heart. I am deeply committed to treating my employer with dignity and respect, my goal is to win their trust and alleviate any embarrassment or anxiety they may feel when needing assistance with bathing, toileting, grooming or other personal care. I also planned creative activities that my employer needed and physical/mental abilities. Examples: card games or board games etc. It can be challenging at times, but I truly enjoyed working with my employer. Though I strive to make a meaningful difference in the lives of my employer, the lessons that I learnt from them that they have in return made a lasting impact in my life. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss this application with you further, and I look forward to hearing from you soon. Thank you very much for your attention to my application. Respectfully yours, Charity D.

When you greet each day with gratitude, life becomes a delight, a JOY. I have always held a heartfelt desire for the greater good of all. I love the candid, honest, and playful nature of children, which also arises in the elderly. So much wisdom in both stages of life! I am genuine, happy to help others in need, am fun loving, kind, respectful, I laugh a lot, am patient and compassionate. I am most drawn to a position that feels like it has meaning in someone else's life, as it does mine. I am health conscious, and normally very active, (I played tennis 5 days a week until I broke my knee) so now I just skip to the beach to swim everyday instead...no not in winter but almost! Our elders are us, just a few years ahead, and deserve the utmost genuine care, encouragement, and unwavering loving support, all of which brings a humble joy to my heart to be a part of. Care Giver for Nanaimo Family Life Association providing elderly care and companionship. Drove clients to/from appts, grocery shopping, light housekeeping, and happily shared time listening to the many colourful lives of so many beautiful people. Also provided care, housekeeping and companionship in private home for an elderly woman with early signs of Alzheimer's/dimentia. And in a more personal setting, I shared in the care of my beloved grandfather during his last days of cancer treatment, at the end of his time on this good earth. And those last few days together, pondering the eternal nature of God ~ is a precious time that always makes me smile.... I have also been in need of a helping hand during times of illness or injury and know how valuable it is to receive loving support :-)

I am a 63 years of age "female" with thirteen years of experience working full-time as a live-in/live-out Private Caregiver and 99% of my clients were diagnosed with Dementia/Alzheimer at various levels. I am extremely reliable, caring, patient, generous and compassionate. My personality is gregarious, uplifting, positive, always ready for a good laugh, blessed with a great sense of humour "funny" and I adjust very well to others and new environments. I am a quick thinker and use common sense in every day tasks and challenges. I prioritize Health and Safety and Confidentiality of the person in my care. I use the European approach which is based on the Person Centered Care and Bio-Psycho-Social Model. The illness "Dementia" does not define the person, therefore the European philosophy is by far the best way of working with and around Dementia. The illness will progress at its own rate, but the person can still enjoy a tremendous amount of pleasure in his/her life. I provide Cognitive Stimulation Therapy, positive support, guidance and validation of the person in my care. It is mandatory to keep the person active in their daily activities such as exercising, eating a proper diet, going on outings, visit with good old friends, walking in a beautiful park or on the beach. People with Dementia need to remain involved in their own life as they have known it. As the illness progresses certain activities will have to be readjusted in order to accommodate and adapt to new changes. The importance of having a Caregiver involved at an early stage of the illness, and preferably someone who has experience with Dementia will make a huge difference in the person's life. It will allow for the person to develop a sense of safety, security, familiarity and most importantly trust into the Caregiver. As the illness progresses the person will experience extreme confusion, fear, sometime hallucinations, will become delusional from time to time. Therefore, having a permanent Caregiver who journeys through all the changes and stages of the illness with the person suffering from Dementia, will help and guide the Caregiver into offering the proper care and interaction during those very difficult moments as the circle of trust is already in place. People diagnosed with Dementia often flirt with severe depression. It is the most important part of the Caregiver's job to keep the person above the line of depression by using the proper interaction, by stepping out of her comfort zone in order to help the person experiencing a dark moment. It takes a lot of psychology, sensitivity, sensibility, observation, self-awareness and knowledge of who the person was prior to the illness in order to offer the appropriate approach and emotional support. I use reminiscence as a working instrument which allows me to discover and learn about the person's life prior to being diagnosed with Dementia. One needs to know who the person is, her/his hobbies, profession, creative part of themselves, love of music, travelling, bringing up a family, anecdotes, the arrival and joy of having grand-children and sometime great grand-children, their favourite sports, perhaps the love of dancing or singing in a choir. All this knowledge can be reapplied and used for some very positive outcome as the illness takes its course. It offers the person to be involved, strike conversation and feel a sense of worthiness, dignity and pride for who they really are, but most importantly it brings the person out of isolation. Sharing memories and a life-time of experiences helps the Caregiver to focus on what matters to the person. It is in trust and knowledge that we can walk the road less travel. Kind Regards to all families in need of care for a beloved family member diagnosed with Dementia. Professional Caregiver/Companion Specializing in Dementia. Thirteen years of full-time employment as a live-in/out. Providing a Healthy and Safe environment, all aspects of Household management, dispensing and renewal of all medications/prescriptions, keep records of all medications given daily, monitor the overall health and changes in the demeanour of my client either physically, cognitively, emotionally and psychologically. Make all appointments to the Doctor. Take care of shopping, cooking, gardening, light housekeeping, laundry and looking after pets big or small if any, Take my client on outings, walking, water exercises, stretching if capable. Use various type of Cognitive Therapy, Reminiscence, little projects such as painting, starting a scrapbook, singing, dancing etc.. Additional Experiences/Qualifications: I have taken many seminars regarding Dementia. I like to keep myself up to date with the latest studies. I spend hours reading on the subject via internet regarding the latest approach to the illness. I read mostly on the European Person Centered Care Model. Prior to working as a private caregiver for the last twelve + years, I worked for five years in a Group-Home as a full-time caregiver with young people diagnosed with Autism, FASD, Paranoid Schizophrenia, dual diagnoses, developmental challenges and behavioural issues. I enjoy working with people diagnosed with Dementia as I am extremely patient, easy going, adaptable to all the changes and challenges of the illness. I am also blessed with a great sense of humour. My positive and outgoing personality allows me to bring a zest for life to the person in my care. I am extremely spontaneous, quick thinker and I apply common sense to every day tasks and challenges. My main focus is on making the person feel comfortable, safe, healthy and engaged in her daily life. The importance of building a trust relationship is the most important part of my work. Once the circle of trust is established, it opens up the doors of communication between myself and the person in my care, as well as the family members involved. Note : I no longer take on ambulatory cases and the person must be continent. The reason for this is simple. I have reached an age where I am no longer willing to take on the task of looking after a person who is unable to move herself / himself. I don't work with lifts or do transfers anymore. If the person has a tendency to be violent I don't accept to work in this environment anymore, as it is too much for me now, and I have done it for many years. I assist with shower for proper washing and for safety.

Hello and thank you for your interest in my page. I am friendly, patient, and supportive and love to laugh at myself. I embrace challenges to help people live their best active and fulfilling lives. I truly love my work. I personally know change and its challenges are a natural part of life; that everyone given time, age or circumstance will be in need of support.. for a short time or longer, when life does not easily allow for the difference. So I offer my help to you. I have spent many years within the Independent and Supported Living Health Care Systems in B. C. as a Home Health Care provider, Special Education Assistant and as a Community and Mental Health Support Worker. I was trained in hospitals, supported care facilities, independant living homes, rehabilitation centers and public schools . My primary work has been in private homes of clients in support of their independant living or as additional support to clients seeking to transition to more independant living options. My employers are my clients. As an employee, I will bring with me everything I have gained over a mature lifetime, understanding fully what respect, dignity and support in maintaining as much independence and identity truly means. Its your life. Im here to care and assist you living it. If you have any questions about my knowledge or qualifications, I am happy to meet with you and review your concerns. I will provide current vaccinations proof and require yours unless an immuno compramised illness inhibits these, a CRC with Interpol vulnerable persons check, ICBC 5 year to current Drivers Abstract, certifications and references upon request. I am interested in casual to part time pernament work, ideally with a single client. Employment that is a good fit for both of our needs. I am older and my days of full body assisted transfers are less appealing. But mechanically assisted or guided assistance transfers are fine. In these days of Covid, I use full hygene protocol in my private and professional life. If trust and comfort are established and you are my sole client, we can mutally agree to lessen some of these protocols in the home but it must be based on safety and risk evaluations done together. Take care and stay safe. Kay. I support my clients with daily living activities and provide approved medical, physiotherapy, mental health and personal care needs, as directed in either their Independent or Supported Living Plan or as discussed with client and/or family. 5 years of direct experience with in collaborative healthcare delivery systems, such as hospice, hospitals and care homes; delivering a client centered philosophy in support of greater independence 14 additional years, working privately and directly with clients in their homes to support them in their independant living situations. Respect of my clients' individuality, dignity and life experiences Supporting client directed care in any capacity they can make their wishes known and are safe Respectfully assist or perform personal, medical health and mental health care needs Work with clients to re-orientate their life to changes in care, accommodations or health outlooks until a positive comfort level is reached Experienced working with a wide cross section of people with physical challenges and multiple barriers Adaptive to different personalities, behaviours, communication styles Behavior management strategies and communication styles across spectrums Conflict resolution and crisis prevention education, training and experience Provide assistance and access to additional safety equipment where appropriate to support client independence Personal and medical care/ therapy for physical, behavioral, intellectually challenged clients or a combination of vulnerabilities. Advanced personal care: Geriatrics, Quadriplegia, ALS etc., Hoyer transfers, wound care and client transport Maintain accurate progress reports, medication logs and inter departmental communications Implement preventative care plans designed for clients’ needs and their abilities Provide 24-hour supported care for terminally ill patients as Hospice support staff Perform live-in client evaluations to assess their living needs and address areas of support to enable client to continue to live independently as the preferred mandate Make informed recommendations for additional supported care when independence is not maintainable after exhausting all other options Work well under pressure with clients, independently and in team environments My listening and communication skills are patient, attending, empathetic and encouraging Follow through is a quality I value in myself when serving for or advocating on behalf of my clients I reassess my perceptions, skills and knowledge against new experiences, points of view and my peers I am current on all health clearances, vaccinations and Level “C” Basic Life Saving Certificate Additional Experiences/Qualifications: I was trained in hospitals, facilities and in private homes under the teaching direction, supervision and assessment of practicing Physicians, Nurses and Therapists over 3 years to earn my certifications. I am fully accredited As Home Support Worker 1&2, Hospice Care, Long-term Care Aide. However, Industry Training, even those taken at a hospital or other medical facility under professional guidance, is not currently acknowledged as equivalent to the completion of a certified 6 month course from a credited college, to be eligible to register on the Health Care Registry. Though being registered is not a legal requirement of employment and indication of skill, it is a desirable one. I do support the registry, it is needed. There are questionable skills and work experience being passed off as educational training. There is no replacement for professional training. But for those of us who were professionally trained before 2014, without a path to challenge my educational credentials and learning experience, as equivalent to or superior to, those courses currently offered by colleges and universities, I had to make a choice between spending my money and time on a Degree in Social Work or a new Certificate in Health Care. I have chosen to put my resources towards the degree and focus on mental health and special education for my long term employment goals If you have any concerns about my knowledge or qualifications, I am happy to meet with you and review your concerns and you may test my knowledge to your satisfaction.
