my name is Nan, we are a warm and calm neurodivergent family living at Brentwood bay, Vancouver Island. We are looking for a person who is willing to spend time with our 5yo bright, lovely (and sometimes anxious) autistic homeschooler. What we are looking for : The “job” is more likely as a child-minder/mentor, but will be paid as a BI through autism funding or EA through our DL school. Your time with him will be mostly follow his lead for playing (mom will be present or around). He is looking for connection, we would like to introduce a kind person who respects and enjoys our little person. We are looking for someone with whom he will create connection/friendship/bond with and enjoy the time together ❤️☺️ - You are patient, calm, respectful. Sometimes our little guy can be anxious (can be seen as “verbally/physically mean”), you will be able to not take that personally, you are able to stay calm, showing empathy and understanding of his “behaviors” as a communication of his anxiety, and modeling the regulation of emotions in a health way. - You are a person more into to observation and adapt than quick reactive. That helps a lot to understand and adapt to his needs and functions, and establish a trustful relationship. With time spend with him, you will be able to sense his energy level and adapt his needs at the moment. - Sometimes he needs a lots of physical input, which means he needs to run, jump, moving around, you will be able to follow and support him physically and keep him safe. Sometimes he wants more quite play such as toys or video games, you could just follow his lead. Sometimes, if you have interesting Ideas or learning activities you could also introduce to him, but no need to insist if you find him not interested. - Our little person is a mechanic/technology lover, he loves to explore and manipulate any machines/tools, he is also a big fan of Minecraft, Roblox and beat saber. He loves building games like legos, magnets toys, etc. If you are also interested in these, it will be a plus too. But don’t mind if you don’t know any of these, he would be love to share with you his interest. - If you are knowledgeable of PDA profile of autism (pathological demand avoidance), or you are willing to learn about PDA and follow neurodivergent affirming methods. - Most of your time will spend at our house or around our house, as time pass we may go outside somewhere for some activities together if he requires to. - You are flexible on days/hours/on call (within 24-48h), we could meet you only one time per week for several hours or several times per week if it fits both sides’ needs, capacities and schedules. - The wage begins at 20$/h, it can be higher if you are our unicorn, and we are looking for a long term relationship if it’s the good fit, our priority is finding the right candidate and working an ideal schedule around them.
