• Provide personal assistance and support services for elderly, disabled, acute or chronically ill patients who have chronic / complex medical conditions, physical or cognitive disabilities, require end-of-life care.
• Provide work guidance to other health care aides and students and interact with patient family members
• Assist patients with Activities Of Daily Living (ADL), mobility and exercise; participate in case conferences
• Serve meal trays, feed or assist in feeding of patients and assist patients with menu selection
• Provide personal care to promote patient comfort and safety including bathing, skin care, toileting, mouth care, dressing and undressing, grooming including shaving, nail/ hair care; lift, turn or massage patients
• Supervise patients' exercise routines, set-up and provide leisure activities for patients
• Take patients' blood pressure, temperature and pulse; report or record fluid intake and output; observe or monitor patients' status and document patient care on charts; collect specimens(urine, feces and sputum)
• Administer suppositories, colonic irrigations and enemas; perform other procedures as directed
• Transport and accompany patients in wheelchair or stretcher for treatments, diagnostic tests or surgery;
• Carry messages, reports, requisitions and specimens to appropriate departments and offices
• Maintain patients' rooms; maintain a clean, safe environment; make beds and clean bedside units, collect and bag soiled linen for dispatch to laundry, sort and store linen and gowns; supply / empty bed pans
• Maintain inventory of medical supplies by taking inventory and replenishing when levels are low
• Perform maintenance tasks; assist with the set-up and maintenance of traction equipment, clean or sterilize equipment, maintain and repair equipment, assemble, setup and operate job-related equipment
• Use appropriate and safe equipment, protective devices and clothing and report any contravention of safety / infection control legislation, standards, policies & procedures, e. g. defective equipment or hazards
• Observe and monitor clients’ progress, symptoms and behavioural changes; report observations to RNs
• Assist nursing staff with admission, discharge, and transfer of residents; document resident care activities
• Respond to call bells and alarms, help any staff member requiring assistance
• Utilize mechanical aides such as specialty beds, wheelchairs and stretchers to transport clients and provide assistance with lifting and/or transferring of clients following established safety techniques.
