I am a retired social worker who provides live-out caregiver/respite services to seniors. I am available Monday to Friday during day and for some evening hours. My goal is to offer assistance to seniors who wish to continue living in their own homes or who require respite occasionally. I provide respite care in my own home for short periods of time if a family member or main caregiver would like to plan a holiday or require time off and your loved one cannot be left alone. However I do not have a nursing background so I am not able to provide any assistance with nursing care needs. Within your own home and during respite in my home I can help with meal preparation, provide companionship, assistance with hygiene and dressing, some assistance for mobility issues, light housecleaning, and grocery shopping. I also am available to take you out for walks and to some social events. I am married and enjoy walking, hiking, reading, traveling, playing cards and board games, watching movies and going to live theatre. The reason I decided to provide these services is that my own 85 year old mother fell and broke her arm and hip and required assistance to return to her own home once she was discharged from the hospital. I found that there were very few services available to her that were affordable and that the services available were limited, aside from nursing care. I also found that there were not too many places that provided respite care to seniors in or out of their homes which was something she required at the time. I hope that some of the services I provide will be useful to seniors and/or their families and look forward to meeting with you to discuss any options you feel that are required but still lacking and explore if I may be able to provide.
