Hello, My name is Madde and I have just complete my first year at Queen's University studying Physical and Health Education. I am enthusiastic, energetic, positive, patient, creative and love being around children. I grew up with two older brothers and although I love arts and crafts, I also love sports and I think I have them to thank for that. Throughout my life, I have always been physically active and have attended summer camp, so I know lots of games and activities to keep children happy and engaged all summer long. My love for sports and a healthily lifestyle is what helped me choose the program "Physical and Health Education" program, which includes both science based classes and those that focus on teaching children and keeping them safe and secure while at play. In high school I volunteered at a summer camp for an immigrant children ages 5 to 13, where I was responsible for organizing, instructing and participating in a wide variety of sports, games and activities for all levels of skills and development. I also taught the children a dance which they later performed to their parents, as well prepared snacks (I even brought them some of my homemade cookies. ) I also helped in the morning preparation and the afternoon cleaning of the classroom to ensure a safe and comfortable environment. Throughout high school I set high standards for myself and sought out many opportunities to take on additional responsibilities, learn new skills, and work with others. I was an active member of many school clubs, councils and teams such as the Student Activity Council, the Mentorship Program (which mentors and provides positive role models to Grade 9 students), Free the Children and the Animal Welfare club. In grade 12, I was the Vice President of the Athletic Council, and ran many charity fundraisers and events. As well, I was on the flag-football, volleyball and lacrosse team for all 4 years of high school. All of these programs and activities have developed my personal core values of hard work, determination, commitment, responsibility, time-management and having a good attitude.

In high school, you have to complete 40 hours of community service to graduate. I decide to dedicate 30 of these hours towards working at summer camp for Polycultural Immigrant and Community Services in Mississauga. There, I assisted with summer camp program for children ages 5 to 13 while their parents attended ESL classes. Responsibilities included organizing, instructing and participating in a wide variety of sports, games and activities for all levels of skills and development. I also taught the children a dance which they later preformed to their parents, as well prepared snacks for the children and also brought them some of my homemade cookies. I also helped in the morning preparation and the afternoon cleaning of the classroom to ensure a safe and professional environment. In previous summers, my cousins from England and Costa Rica would always rent a cottage and come visit Canada for three weeks. My cousins were aged 2-10 and I would always stay with them and help my aunts and uncles look after the children. This included getting breakfast and lunch for them and planning activities for them during the day. I would also look after them and put them to bed when they went out for dinner. Additional Experiences/Qualifications: I have been trained in Standard First Aid and Emergency First Aid, as well as a life guard and a swim instructor.
