Hello, My name is Shawnay and I am a young lady of 23 years old that loves to help others. I have ample experience working with and providing care for children who live with disabilities through both my personal and professional life. In my personal life, I am the younger sister to two lovely women who happen to live with disabilities. I have spent a lot of time learning from them and helping them achieve their goals as well as helping them with day to day tasks. My eldest sister, who came into our lives when I was around 14, lives with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. As for my biological sister, she lives with Cerebral Palsy. In my professional life I provided respite care for a wonderful family who has a daughter that has Down Syndrome. During my time there I facilitated in play, learning and communication as well as planned activities for us to do during the day. In earlier years, I had volunteered my time with the Cerebral Palsy Association of Alberta in their Ballerina Dreams program as what they called a Mentor. In this role I aided young children in a dance class setting to complete and understand the dance moves being asked of them so that they were able to perform these as independently as possible and to the best of their ability. I take pleasure in helping others achieve their goals and aspirations, as well as providing supports wherever necessary. A little about me as a person; I have many interests aligning with the arts such as music, drawing, and acting. I am also an avid animal lover and volunteer my time every so often to the Alberta Spay and Neuter Task Force whenever possible. I enjoy spending time with friends, going out for karaoke and just having a fun time in general. I would love the opportunity to help you in whatever you may need. I had described in my "about me" section my experience in working with children and people with disabilities, but I do also have 7 years of childcare in the form of babysitting under my belt as well. Fromm 2009 I had babysat a young girl on a semi-regular basis, providing entertainment, cooking for her, cleaning up after us as we went, doing light housekeeping and helping her with homework. In addition I had babysat a young girl of 2 years old for approximately 2 years, providing the same sort of care.
