Kia ora. I am a New Zealand born nanny and educator; I grew up, along side my foster brother, in Auckland city in a full and busy household. A diverse range of children and teenagers surrounded me as my mom worked in home-base childcare and hosted international high school students. At a very early age I developed a passion for helping to care for the other children in our home and began babysitting as soon as I was old enough. I have lived in Auckland New Zealand, Vancouver B. C, and Portland OR; all cities rich in nature that have allowed me to indulge my love of hiking, swimming, and generally exploring the outdoors. I grew up near the water and still love to get in the sea whenever I can. I began nannying when I left high school for one of the first families I ever babysat for. I cared for their children for over 15 years and still continue to have a strong relationship with the family. I have worked in a wide variety of settings including: clients homes, my own home, nurseries and preschools, holiday programs, art therapy groups, and elementary classrooms. I have worked one on one, with small groups of children, and groups of up to 30 children both independently along side other childcare providers. I have had the honour of caring for babies from as young as 4 weeks, and while I enjoy different aspects of caring for children of all ages working with very young children is always an incredible experience. Infant and toddler care is my one of my many specialties. Most recently I was working in a nursery with 3-4 other qualified teachers providing care for eighteen children, ages 6 months to 2 years, practicing under RIE philosophy. Because of my academic background I am interested in learning about different childcare and development theories and continue to engage in discussion about these with other professionals. I have had the unique experience of sole care for an extended period (2 weeks) of a 12 year old. I was responsible for all aspects of her care, while her parents dealt with a family crisis. I have also cared for twins with multiple health issues, including severe asthma and developmental delays. While in Portland I cared for a 13 year old, who was adopted after living in multiple care homes while in the foster system. Along side her parents and counsellor I provided her with emotional support. I cannot imagine ever not working with children in some capacity. Nannying is one of my favourite ways to work with children as it allows me to really get to know the children as individuals and cater to their specific needs. I am an experienced childcare provider with a calm and caring nature. I have a good rapport with children and build relationships based on trust and respect. I bring a myriad of interest that I love to share and enjoy learning all the new things children have to teach me. I have an abundance of hobbies and skills including running, aerial circus arts, ballet, cooking, baking, music, photography, and drawing. All skills I love to share with the children I care for. My primary language is English and I speak a small amount of Māori, the indigenous language of New Zealand. My education includes a graduate diploma of teaching, a bachelor of fine arts, first aid certificate, Early Childhood Education and Care classes, and I will completing the last 2 classes of a diploma of guidance studies through UBC online next year. This education has equipped me well to care for children, to provide tutoring in school subjects, given me the knowledge to identify, assess, and support children with learning disabilities, as well as an understanding of guidance and counselling, career counselling, and psychology. I would love to work for a welcoming family that values play and the outdoors. I am happy to do overnight stays and accompany families on trip out of the city. I am open to light housekeeping, dog walking, and cooking if needed. I personally keep a plant-based diet and while I do not mind serving meals outside of this I prefer not to deal with raw meat. I am able to provide tutoring in core subjects and work over time hours as needed. I look forwards to meeting your family and getting to know you.

I have worked with children with special needs, mental and physical health issues, allergies and special dietary needs, and multiples (twins).
