Childcare style |
I believe that it is important to provide as many possibilities as I am able to for a child to grow and develop in a positive and nurturing environment. If you encourage and support a child with positive enthusiasm they will be more comfortable as a child develops their social skills and becomes self aware.
You can often find me playing alongside any child in my care to help them develop their skills, and have fun, in a safe environment.
As a nanny I believe in being fair with set boundaries and structure for each level of a child’s development. This does take patience and respect in each child’s developmental level; thereby giving the child the ability to trust and develop a bond with you. Smiling and laughing is a big part of my personality.
I believe the role of a nanny is to guide a child’s development socially, physically, intellectually and emotionally, while the child is in my care. I have found that by arranging regular trips to the playground for outdoor play not only helps to achieve this but also gives the child the simple enjoyment of being out in the fresh air. Through interactive play I can help to guide a child to develop their assertive skills and thereby ensure that they learn a healthy sense of personal space and boundaries.
Play and socialization is one part of being a nanny, but as a nanny I will set aside a part of each day to help a child develop intellectually for their age group. This can be as simple as reading a book to something more complex as teaching a child how to spell to doing simple math problems. The act of picking up a pencil and writing down their name assists a child in developing their coordination skills. There is also the added bonus of seeing a child’s face light up with pride when they write their own name for the first time.
My day as a nanny is always broken up into different activities, from quiet time to interactive play, which includes music, art and science plus a healthy dose of imagination. I believe that by providing for a more stimulating environment a child will develop into a more rounded person with the skills and abilities to try different things.

Self-description |
I was born and raised in Auckland, “the City of Sails”, New Zealand
A recent description of me is from an acquaintance of mine “A person with a bubble expressive disposition with a quick witted sense of humour who has also an enthusiasm for life that is exhausting”.
I am a very organized and motivated person with a sense of priority and purpose, combined with a tenacious determination. Being optimistic gives me the ability to “just get on with life” and have a great time doing it; being flexible, tolerant and patient helps me to achieve this. I find these are what I feel are my most important characteristics.
Gregarious by nature, you will often find me helping people and doing my best to be a good role model to those around me. Friends and making friends from all walks of life is something I cherish. I feel that I am a caring warm person who is confident in how I interact with people. Communication, listening and being able to relate well are a large part of my make up which helps me succeed in relating to people of all ages.
I value family life highly and feel that I wouldn’t be the person I am today without the upbringing and sibling relationships I was fortunate to have. Coming from a family of six was a bonus as I learnt to appreciate, from a young age, the feelings of others as well as learn the intricate skill of sharing and cooperating. Keeping in touch with each other is something we all cherish as we continue to support one another and celebrate each other’s successes and encourage each other when a helping hand is needed. You don’t realize how much you take your family’s love, support and close protective bond for granted until you move away to the other side of the world.
My recreational activities and personal interests lie largely outdoors. Camping, hiking with friends in different parts of Canada have enabled me to see just how beautiful this country is.
For down time I enjoy going to the beach, reading, listening to music and even just watching a movie. Or just spending time with friends, socializing and meeting new people is a nice way to relax.
I have been a keen sports enthusiast since I was young. My first sport was field hockey, which I really enjoyed and even competed at the Junior National Levels in New Zealand. Nowadays I am an avid paddler competing at the international level. My sporting activities have enhanced my abilities to become a more efficient, stable, understanding and loving caregiver for any child(ren) I am a nanny for.
I love spending time with my friends and in particular their children; often going on outings together. Spending time with the children gives me the opportunity to simply enjoy special bonding and fun time.
I feel that children are such precious jewels that they really fulfill our lives with so much in just being around them. It is so important to interact with children at their level and let them grow and develop and try new experiences in the world.
I feel and know that I am a better and more rounded person for all the time I spend and have spent in teaching and working and simply spending time with children. It is such an honour to be able to teach and love and be a large part of their world(s).

| Briefly
describe your work experience |
| Over the past ten years I have worked with seven families as their children move from newborn to full time school age. In each of the families I have been involved with numerous programmes ranging from local recreation centres, public libraries, CRD and off course the preschool/school activities. I feel that working with children is one the most rewarding jobs you can have. It is very special being apart of their development and growth and being able to celebrate their daily achievements. I feel that one of my strong suits is the ability to communicate and express feelings at the childs level. Equally important is candid and honest communication with the parents leading to a very close bond/relationship and one of mutual respect. |
