| I am a recently graduated teacher that has been described as "good with kids" by my wife's grandparents and other family. In addition to a B.Ed, I have a BA and MA in philosophy, and experience teaching ESL in South Korea and Toronto. I am a fast learner and eager to take on new challenges. For example, I made it a goal to run the Victoria marathon in 4 hours and ran it in 4:00:25. I've been thinking of running it again to shave off those twenty-five seconds, but I have other interests too. One of the main reasons I became an English teacher is that I love reading, and reading to others, and I would look forward to sharing my love of books with any children in my care. |

| Ms. Joanne Wong |
| She was the Supervisor during my one-month internship/practicum teaching at Victoria High School.
Letter of Reference:
May 31, 2011
To Whom It May Concern:
Mr. Alden Jerrett-Enns successfully completed a one month internship at Vic High May 2011 and taught two regular English 11 classes during that time, a Social Studies 11 class for one week, and helped out with Leadership activities.
In my observations of the English 11 classes, I was pleased to see how rich, varied, and well-planned his lessons were. Alden has a wealth of knowledge and resources from which to draw upon, in combination with appropriate technology in the classroom, to create lessons appealing to a wide range of adolescents. He dedicated a great deal of time and effort to using a variety of strategies to engage and assess his students, evaluating them from provincial rubrics and prescribed learning outcomes. He also quickly learned and effectively implemented several of the latest Smartlearning tools from the Susan Close Institute. Alden's insightful feedback to students was constructive and supportive as he ahs the ability to follow their thinking, and guide them to a deeper level of critical thought and reasoning in their writing.
Alden established a solid, respectful rapport with the students. He is poised and polished in appearance and is able to quickly adapt to the unexpected in the classroom. He continually reflects upon his practice to analyze how to improve and holds high standards for himself. Alden is becoming aware of what classroom management entails and resourcefully implements preventative methods to create a positive learning environment. He is also aware of the importance of using his voice and non-verbal language to effect, something he will continually work on.
Overall, his students responded enthusiastically, appreciating the thoughtful content and effort in his delivery, and will miss his wit and quiet humour. I am confident Alden will be an asset to any school. Thank you for a job well done in such a short period of time.
Yours truly,
J. Wong |

| Ms. Joan O'Callaghan |
| She was my OISE Instructor for English, and observed me teaching as well.
Letter of Reference:
January 28, 2011
To Whom It May Concern:
Alden Jerrett-Enns has been a student in my English Intermediate/Senior class since September, 2010. All assignments have been completed on time as required. Furthermore, Alden's assignments demonstrate imagination, academic integrity and attention to the craft of our profession. His ability to work in an effective and collegial manner with his classmates won him their affection and respect.
I observed Alden teach a challenging grade 11 college-level class during the fall practicum. He chose materials for his class that were relevant and engaging and students responded positiely. Alden's Associate Teacher had high praise for his effort and noted that Alden was doing a better job of classroom management than he himself. He also commended Alden for his effective use of technology in his teaching.
Alden is an intelligent, personable, and conscientious young man who is committed to effective teaching and excellence in the classroom.
I am pleased to recommend Alden for a teaching position. He will be an outstanding teacher, an excellent addition to any school fortunate enough to obtain his services.
Kindest Regards,
E. Joan O'Callaghan |
