  About Me

My name is Kate Garvey and I am a young, energetic, active student with a passion for working in childcare and education.

I am a fourth-year university student at Carleton University and will be entering into teacher's college at Queen's University in the fall of 2013. I have much experience working with children and worked as a Nanny/Mother's Helper this previous summer and was employed by the the Ottawa Catholic School Board from 2010-2012 as an In-Class Tutor; working with both primary and junior children in a variety of different areas including organizing and creating educational activities, strategies and games, behavior management and I enjoy this work thoroughly.

I pride myself on the many skills I have acquired from these jobs and others, such as; patience, time management and organizational skills as well as very well-developed strategies for working with children. In addition I am a very strong, involved, and motivated student in my education and have acquired an abundance of practical skills in pursuing my secondary education. All of this, I believe, have prepared me well to be a positive addition to a daycare facility or caregiver position.

  Work Experience & Education Background

3 years experience, 3 references
This previous summer I worked as a Nanny/Mother's helper to a pregnant mother on strict bed rest with a 7 year-old little girl. My duties ranged from preparing meals for the whole family, doing the grocery shopping, caring for the little girl and organizing day trips, many educational, active and outdoor activities as well as working on behavior management.
I enjoyed this work thoroughly and have stayed with the family as a tutor for the now 8-year old and occasional babysitter for the newborn!

As mentioned previously, I worked with elementary school children in a school setting and in addition to this valuable experience I have been surrounded by children since a young age, have had much experience with babysitting through occasional employments as well as summer work caring for various children on a part- time basis for full days including meal preparation and indoor and outdoor activity planning.

My title with the Catholic School Board is "In-Class Tutor" and therefore not only have I gained experience working with children but am gaining experience with education as well.
