Live In Light Duty Care Needed for Elderly Woman in North York

SH
Active:

Our mother is 84 years old, and his been living alone in our family home since our father died in 2003. She had been coping well until early in the new year, when something slipped in her lower back. Since then she has been in chronic back pain that treatment has yet to resolve. She has seen several doctors who have given her a collection of medications, and we think that she has been taking them all because she has rapidly become forgetful and confused than she had previously been. It is possible that some mild dementia is setting in, but we are not sure because of the meds. My sister lives north of the city and I live out west, but we are currently off work and spending time with our mother to ensure that she sticks with a more regimented pain management approach. The situation does seem to be improving, but it is is not sustainable as we both have jobs and families. Our mother has been very clear that she wants to remain in the family home for as long as possible. At this time we are looking for live-in care to oversee her meds, to help her with bathing, to do some light cooking and cleaning, and to assist with her getting to doctors appointments. She is still quite independent (with car and license -- has not driven much lately), but she needs some help on a daily basis that we cannot provide. We hope that her back will improve with time, but the prognosis seems uncertain. Somebody who lived in her home but worked elsewhere part-time might be ideal. Our mother lives in a lovely part of North York, quite close to the subway and other amenities. You would basically have a whole floor of the house to yourself, including a large bedroom with big windows, a private bathroom with a shower stall, and use of the side entrance if that was your preference. The house is warm, comfortable, and generally tidy if a bit outdated. There is cable TV and wifi. Our mother does not have pets and does not smoke. She is very well-travelled and has led and interesting life, and prefers to avoid conflict wherever possible. I don't think she would be the easiest person to care for, but she would also not be the hardest. If this sounds interesting to you, please reply with some further information about yourself and we can go from there.
