This position has now been filled. *** We are seeking an active, experienced, part-time (20 hrs/week) nanny for full days on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and one evening per week (preferably Fridays), starting in September 2016. We are located in Steveston Village. We are looking for a nanny who has her own vehicle or means to get to our home. Driving our child is *NOT* a requirement of this position. Our parenting style is attached, gentle and involved, so we seek a good fit with a nanny who has a like-minded approach to our little girl. We are Jesus-loving people, and would feel most comfortable with a nanny who shares our values (although this is not a pre-requisite). We are also seeking a nanny who has experience with children who have exceptional needs and are not neurotypical . Our daughter requires someone with a gentle hand and firm boundaries, and who is able to diffuse an emotional situation using non-violent (e.g. humour, distraction) strategies while maintaining her own emotions in check. The ability to remain calm is crucial to successful behaviour management and helping to regulate my daughter's emotional states. We strongly prefer someone who is self-aware, familiar with attachment theory, and able to remain impartial in heated situations. Our expectations for a nanny is that she is someone who would: - speak and write English as a first language, or with great proficiency - actively play with (vs. "supervise") our little girl; an imagination is vital to this - create learning opportunities and approach learning from a "play-based" perspective - have impeccable communication skills - promote an active lifestyle by going to the park and other outdoor excursions daily - prepare a healthy lunch (our nanny is welcome to eat from our fridge or bring her own lunch) - do our daughter's laundry as needed - perform light household tasks (tidying up, loading/unloading dishwasher, clearing the , sweeping or vacuuming) and run occasional errands - be willing to work one evening per week to allow us to have a "date night" or attend school functions - abstain from use of technology (smartphones, social media) during work hours - respect our privacy by not posting images or information about our child online without permission - take initiative to anticipate what needs to be done, and complete tasks without having to be asked We are optimistic that we will find a great fit in time for the fall. However, we will not rush the process because we value the importance of finding a good fit, since we consider our nanny to be an extended part of our family. There is a huge amount of autonomy involved in this position, so we would like to have someone who we can trust implicitly and whose judgment and personal lifestyle reflect wisdom and prudence, integrity and gentleness.
