I am a student at McGill studying health sciences and enjoy working with elderly people and providing companionship. While I have not had paid caretaking experience before, I have provided care to elderly family members faced with dementia and volunteer frequently in hospice and nursing home settings. Growing up, I would play my violin for people in nursing homes and hospices and really enjoyed the connection I could have with the residents. This population is chronically underserved, and I think it is important to treat them with the same dignity and respect as any population regardless of their age or ability. The majority of my training and skillset is in behavioral health, which translates well to this area, as I am empathetic, compassionate, good at listening, and comfortable in tense situations or crises. I am a fast learner and am also not afraid to ask for help or clarification if necessary. Also, I can speak both French and English and have experience working in healthcare settings and communicating with healthcare professionals.
