I am seeking a compassionate and understanding female healthcare helper in a part-time live-out capacity. The primary responsibility will be to assist an elderly couple, 90 and 91 years old, in their house located in Etobicoke, Ontario, M9C 1K4. Your work schedule will be from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm three days a week, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The husband in the couple suffers from dementia but remains active. The successful candidate must have have a valid driver's licence and feel comfortable driving the clients’ car for errands. You will also need to accompany the husband on walks and provide a calm, engaging environment. Prior experience with dementia patients will be highly beneficial as this role requires patience and ability to build rapport. While the husband is currently being assisted with bathing and hygiene, like brushing teeth and trimming nails, by his wife, he may eventually require more direct assistance. Therefore, you should feel comfortable providing such assistance when needed. Aside from healthcare duties, this role also involves essential housekeeping tasks, such as changing beds, laundry, dish washing, folding clothes and ensuring the house is overall tidy and clean. You would also be required to undertake meal preparation duties – learning new recipes and cooking for the couple. While not essential, Spanish speaking candidates will be given preference. The position, although demanding, offers a competitive salary of $23 per hour gross pay, amounting to $20 after personal tax deductions, assuming they are applied to this job on Form TD1. Please note that this role requires less than 20 hours per week, starting from the 19th of April, 2024. Though this is a live-out position, a family car will be provided for use on the job. This role offers both Full-Time and Part-Time positions and is a Live-Out job arrangement that would involve 20 - 30 hours weekly (days and hours can be accommodated to). The role primarily involves senior care responsibilities, including but not limited to: bathing assistance and toileting assistance (as the elderly woman requires diaper care), dressing and grooming (she particularly takes pleasure in having her hair oiled and her legs massaged), and support in her range of motion exercises if possible. The position will also entail housekeeping and laundry tasks, meal planning and preparation, and occasional errands. Given her limited mobility, you might have to regularly clean the bathroom, vacuum, and hand wash dishes. It would be an asset if the potential caregiver could be able to plan for visits and outings to see neighbors, friends, and family, though escorting her to appointments and family outings won't be a primary requirement but would definitely provide added value. You would also need to provide general supervision around the home. Our home is filled with love and care for each other; we are a family of 5 with a pet dog, so being comfortable around animals is a must. A crucial aspect of this role is the ability to communicate understandably with the elderly woman, who exclusively speaks Hindi and Punjabi; thus, speaking one or both languages would be a major asset. You should also be willing to work with, or already have experience with incontinence (diapers), diabetes, and hearing impairment as these are part of her daily life. For this role, a driver's license is an asset, and you will also be expected to utilize your own car for transportation needs. Your main task would generally be to help her with her daily care needs while also providing companionship and occasional help throughout the day. Overall, we are especially seeking someone honest and trustworthy in their work above all. Your understanding, compassion, and patience will make a significant, positive difference in her life and ours.
