I am looking for an experienced caregiver who'd be willing to travel with me on a road-trip from Vancouver to Los Angeles. I am a C5 quadriplegic and use a power wheelchair to get around. I need assistance in the morning and night (total around 4 hours), but you'll be paid live-in salary for the duration of the trip. Tasks: 1. 6:30AM Morning routine (takes 2-3hrs) - range of motion exercises - change condom catheter - change colostomy bag - put on clothes - transfer from bed to wheelchair using Hoyer floor lift - grooming - laundry and other tasks of physical assistance 2. 10:30PM Evening routine (takes 1 hr) - assistance with night grooming - transfer from wheelchair to bed using Hoyer floor lift - remove clothes - change leg bag to night bag - clean and sanitize day bag - empty colostomy bag if needed Apart from the hours mentioned above, you will have the entire time to yourself. You can explore the city, meet friends or just chill. While this is a job, for the right candidate, it may very well turn out to be an all expenses paid trip to California. I am planning to leave Vancouver on Jun 28 and return on Jul 10. It's a long road trip so please be sure you can handle being in car for 10+ hours a day. I'll be using my own SUV for the trip. YOU MUST MEET FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS: 1. Must be authorized to work 30hrs a week in Canada 2. Must be authorized to enter United States, either have a visa or be a Canadian citizen 3. No alcohol or drug use during the trip, including marijuana. Smoking tobacco cigarettes is allowed 4. Criminal background check will be conducted 5. 2 references required 6. No cash payment, SIN required 7. Have experience as a caregiver GOOD TO HAVE (but not critical) 1. Valid BC driver's license 2. The live-in arrangement comprises a fully furnished, one-bedroom basement suite, equipped with a kitchen, a cozy living room with TV, internet facilities, laundry amenities, and a private bathroom. Owning a valid driver's license will be an added advantage, as you may occasionally accompany my parents for doctor appointments, supermarket trips, and church visits. Free street parking is available. Note, however, most of the driving-related tasks will be handled by me. We are looking for a live-out caregiver for our mom. She is 88, lives in her home with our sister who is taking care of her but needs help/relief. Our mom’s house is located in the Fraser Street & 60th area in East Vancouver – it will be convenient if the successful candidate lives close by. Our mom is quite frail (less than 100 lbs), and due to a stroke and rheumatoid arthritis and dementia, can no longer walk or speak. She has quite a bit of difficulty swallowing and can only eat pureed food. Responsibilities: • Spoon feeding pureed food and water & giving her daily medicine. • Physically strong, able to bend up and down, prevent falls in supporting our mom when transitioning to/from bed and to/from toilet and sofa. (our mom no longer walks, she has to be placed in her walker/wheelchair. • Talking, patience, engagement with her, although with her stroke, she cannot speak anymore. • Flossing, brushing her teeth after meal, cleaning face, hands. • Toileting throughout the afternoon and evening. • Mild stretching, exercises, some massaging of legs, arms and back • Assisting our sister showering her on a weekly basis. • Some kitchen and bathroom cleaning if time permits Work days and hours: Friday, Saturday, Sunday 4pm to 9pm (5 hours per day); after a month, for the right candidate who would like increased # of days, this can be arranged. Qualifications: • Care aid certification and several years experience caring for a senior who has dementia and is no longer mobile, and with difficulty swallowing food and water. • Physically strong, without any back issues, able to bend up and down, able to physically help transition our mom from her bed to her walker/wheelchair to toilet or sofa. Most important thing is fall prevention. • Kind, gentle, positive, conversant with elderly • Reliable and responsible. Can show up ready to support our sister on time without missing any shifts. • Good verbal English In person interview with us, and references with previous elderly clients will be the process. $22-$25/hour depending on experience
