My 21 yr old son is a gentle easy going young man who enjoys the company of others. He’s on the autism spectrum and although he is mostly nonverbal, he is aware and perceptive. He follows instructions and is able to read as well. He’s such a good guy, at times, so tender & affectionate. He enjoys a variety of healthy food. This position also requires an attentive individual who is able to read the emotional and physical needs and challenges of this young man (as he doesn’t verbalize his needs or feelings). This awareness can help in planning or curtailing activities . A good fit includes an energetic, upbeat positive, and enthusiastic mindset. We need a care aide who is reliable and caring, who's able to help a man continue to live independently with Huntington's disease. The client is mobile but sedentary and has limited ability to speak. It's crucial that he continues to engage with people and keep active. The applicant must have a car and be willing to drive him to appointments and outings for meals and shopping. Also, must enjoy cooking healthy, filling, high protein meals (position is not suitable for a vegetarian). Must enjoy dogs and be willing to feed the dog each day. The job is straightforward and requires cooking meals, keeping the house in order, accompanying client to appointments and taking him on outings to keep him active, encouraging him to exercise and gently guiding him toward shower time and good hygiene. Not a lot of personal care is required but understanding that someone with memory issues needs reminders and encouragement is necessary. Good communication skills are important, and so too is reliability, such as showing up each day on time and planning meals for the week. The suitable candidate would find something to do around the house when there is a lull, and would encourage the client to keep his brain active, such as playing memory games or going for a walk. Hours are flexible but must be consistent, either noon to 5 or 6, or 1 to 6, or thereabouts, Monday through Friday.

We are seeking a live-in caregiver for an 81-year-old woman with dementia, who resides near Grouse Mountain in North Vancouver. The role will require approximately 30-40 hours of work per week. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to: assisting with regular exercise, medication management, companionship, and personal care tasks such as bathing and dressing. The individual may also require assistance with toileting at times. Light meal preparation is also part of the role. The woman owns a quiet and calm cat that requires help with feeding and litter box maintenance. The caregiver will have access to a large master bedroom with an ensuite bathroom, equipped with both a bathtub and a separate shower, as well as a walk-in closet. The rest of the living space will be shared. Requirements for this role include fluency in English and a personal support worker certificate. Applicants are asked to submit a cover letter, references verifying relevant experience, and the highest level of education achieved. ---Requirements: Ideal candidates will have proven experience as a caregiver for the elderly, preferably within an assisted living environment. Knowledge of dementia care and patience when dealing with individuals with cognitive impairments is required. We are seeking someone compassionate and empathetic, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong organizational and time management abilities, and the ability to adapt to the changing needs of elderly individuals. Basic first aid and CPR certification is a plus. Candidates should also provide references from their previous caregiving roles. Working Hours: This is a full-time, live-in position.
