Unfortunately, when he turned 93, his health declined and he needed to hire 24/7 caregivers that includes me working on late afternoon shifts and saturday nightshift. My job includes preparing his medications (as per doctor's prescriptions); doing household chores, preparing meals, encouraging and assisting him to do exercises, changing diapers, maintain cleanliness and proper hygiene to avoid rashes or bedsores, and doing all other care and help he needed.

I worked for a company in Ontario and also here in Montreal, helping two women with dementia and alzheimer's. One lived in a retirement home and the other lived in her own condo. I helped with light housekeeping, meal prep, errands, appointments and companionship. Memory activities and speech therapy. I have experience with progressive aphasia. We would also go for short trips to the Jean Talon market or to the mall for an outing, or just walks in the park for fresh air and exercise. I try to find a topic of conversation that will interest them or find an activity they would like, such as scrabble or other board games.
