While I don't give legal advice, I can point you to the legislation that governs capacity and explain the work of capacity assessors, in case you need this kind of information. Capacity to make both financial and care decisions can change as health declines, and questions inevitably arise regarding power of attorney and guardianship. I can give you good questions to take to your lawyer and I know what a capacity assessor needs to examine in order to assess capacity. Other abilities: From volunteer work with a woman with cerebral palsy over 12 years, I learned to understand CP speech. From caring for my mother who died 25 years ago, I learned how to care for someone with cancer. I have raised a son with ADHD, with whom I developed a lot of patience, and studied cooperative parenting skills, which are based on relating to people with dignity and respect. I love children and they warm to me quickly. Hobbies: I am musical, and can play piano. I sing in a barbershop chorus (4-part harmony). I am creative and artistic, and I love gardening. Regarding care experience: I lived in my father's house for his last eight years with early dementia. In 2018 he developed C. difficile. I nursed him through that. He was very sick but did not go to hospital. COVID hit just as he recovered. In January 2022 he fell and became immobilized due to an old back injury. I coordinated all care, looked after his needs around the clock and assisted the PSWs who came in to help bathe and change his diapers. I cared for him alone at night, administering meds, diapering, etc. I was diligent; although immobilized, he never developed bed sores. I have COVID vaccinations, CPR, First Aid and a vulnerable persons' police check, all from 2023. I have a car and live in Pickering.
