To Whom It May Concern,
It was a pleasure to have Kourtney Pike in my kindergarten classroom for her high school
Cooperative Education placement from September, 2019 to January, 2020. Kourtney worked in the classroom on a daily basis from 12:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Kourtney has a very calm, patient and caring manner with young children. The children in our class felt very comfortable with her. They were excited to see her each day and enjoyed spending time with her. Kourtney participated in the flexible flow of the day in kindergarten, and easily adapted to sudden changes in schedule. She tended to a variety of self-help needs for the students, including guidance with outdoor dressing and lunch containers. She competently prepared materials including photocopying, laminating and assembling books. She sorted and organized artwork and newsletters to go home in the children’s mail bags. She demonstrated a caring approach when supervising the children during lunch time, outdoor time, and field trips. She helped to ensure that classroom routines were followed while the children ate lunch and transitioned outside. She took initiative to set up and clean up the classroom, and engaged with the children in outdoor games.
Throughout her placement Kourtney observed a variety of teaching strategies during whole and small group gatherings, and play based learning times. She took on the responsibility of gathering the class to read stories and introduce new math games. She eagerly worked with students in small groups and individually on reading, writing, math, art, and science activities. Kourtney was interested in learning about curriculum in the early years, and asked questions about different aspects of the program including assessment, documentation, and portfolios. When working with small groups of children on specific skills, she spent time documenting her observations and taking photos. She included detailed notes that were later used as part of the report card writing process.
Kourtney was a valuable member of our kindergarten classroom. She put forth her full effort when working with the children, and always arrived with a positive attitude. I would recommend Kourtney for a position working with young children. Please feel free to contact me
if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Julie Bezemer (OCT)
