I am a grade 12 student at Greater Fort Erie Secondary School, where I am an active member of my school community. Besides being a diligent student, I am involved in Student Council, where I am a grade representative and have many responsibilities such as chairing events, raising school spirit, and running school-wide functions such as dances and colour wars. I am also a peer mentor for two grade nine students, which includes looking out for their well-being, encouraging their involvement in high school life, and helping with homework. Being an older sibling, I have always been the go-to babysitter in the house. Looking after my younger sister is a normal part of my weekly schedule. Over the past few years, I have also expanded to babysitting for three different families of children ages 1-9 years old. This has taught me many skills such as problem-solving, communication, time management, and leadership. I am currently doing a co-op at Douglas Memorial Hospital. I am planning on going to school for nursing in the fall next year.
I have worked for a couple of families babysitting over the past 5 years. I had gotten my babysitting license and started working for a family for a couple of months right before the lockdown. I worked for another family every day after school for a couple of months until that family moved.
here are some of the skills i have learned
Communication Skills: Being a babysitter requires effective communication.
Flexibility: Every child is unique, and every family may have different customs and guidelines. Being a babysitter has taught me how to be flexible and adaptive in a variety of settings, tailoring your strategy to each child's and family's unique needs.
Problem-Solving: Whether it's a child feeling under the weather or a small mishap. I have multiple approaches to comfort and support children in times of need.
