I have lived in Halifax for 12 years and grew up in Moncton, NB. I currently live in Halifax's North End and do not have a car, although I am willing to commute depending on the distance and frequency of support you require. I currently work for Immigration Services as an Inclusivity Coordinator conducting research through a federal grant, but I'm looking to supplement my income by doing part-time or casual work on the side.
I have two degrees in Sociology (King's) and Education (MSVU) and am aspiring to do my Master's degree in Public Administration Management at Dal in 2024. While thoroughly academic, I love to have fun and am a bright, bubbly person. I'm artistic, so if you have children who enjoy art or you wish for them to explore their world more creatively, we could be a great match. I used to play sports growing up and still love them, so I could help keep your kids engaged in physical activity or help them train if needed. Having an education degree, I can also help to tutor your kids over the summer or into the school year. I know Covid was tough and many families have felt their kids suffer: developing low self-esteem or anxiety, losing interest in school or programming, experiencing a decline in grades, etc. I can certainly help you and your kids to develop age-appropriate, achievable strategies in order to help them be more confident in themselves. While I do have experience as a teacher, I don't wish to develop teacher/student dynamics in your home. As parents, you are experts in knowing the needs and how best to care for your kids, and I will do my best to emulate the strategies you use daily.
If you wish to inquire about anything further, please let me know!
I have a Bachelor's degree in Education ('21). I have experience working with children with high needs through my work at Immigration Services Association of NS as well as through volunteering in different capacities with Family SOS and The Spot. While my career has driven me towards not-for-profit organizations in the family services and community development sector, many of my first jobs as a youth were child and youth-centered. I have strong communication, conflict resolution and negotiation skills and have a knack for integrating learning and play. If you wish to know more about how I can match with your family's need, please ask and I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have.
