Hi I’m Jomuelyn! I am a Child Care Assistant in my early 20’s, originally from Manitoba. I have a Filipino background, but I was born and raised in Canada. I enjoy listening to music, reading, and having a nice meal out with my friends or partner. I originally attended university to become a high school teacher, but decided to take a break from school after moving provinces. In my free time I play games, cook, and work a part-time job in customer service. I have worked or volunteered with children on and off for a large portion of my life and I look forward to eventually having my own in the far future!

Previously an education student, I have worked with both infant and school age children. I worked with infants and toddlers in a daycare alongside an ECE, covering for ECE’s who went on vacations during the summer. I changed diapers, helped teach toilet habits (potty training), read to children, played games with children, and set up activities to enrich children (using daycare resources). I also helped put down children for naps, mostly working with the ages of 1.5-3 years. When I worked at a different facility I worked with the ages of 6-12 years old. I group led summer camp activities and was responsible for up to 12 children at a time. I assisted with program planning and often engaged in activities with the children outside (games, sports, parks). It was a great experience which led me to get my childcare assistant certification.

I have a Child Care Assistant Certificate from my home province, Manitoba. To get this certificate you had to complete 40 hours of child care courses, including child psychology. A CCA is Manitoba’s equivalent to an ECEA here in British Columbia.
