My overall work and life experience has given me a wide range of skills that would benefit individuals or families looking for a trustworthy home manager/nanny who can provide various types of support. I am responsible with leadership skills - tell me what you need and I will get it done. My friends, family and colleagues would describe me as respectful and kind, hardworking and resourceful, very patient, dedicated, positive with a good sense of humor and much younger than my years. Since I do not have children of my own, my childcare experience is based on interacting with the children of extended family and friends and my own very active, happy childhood. I grew up on a farm in east-central Alberta. My parents held my sister and I to high standards, thus we were involved in many activities: piano, swimming, skating & skiing lessons, softball, 4-H sewing and public speaking, and church attendance. We were also expected to be well behaved, well groomed and maintain high grades at school. When we became strong enough to safely operate a lawnmower, yard work was added to the list and, of course, cooking and housework. The reward was being allowed to travel on supervised school excursions that took me across Canada, Greece and Italy. I transitioned to city life after obtaining my Grade 12 matriculation and pursued secondary education, world travels and then settled into a career. Many years were dedicated to providing administrative management support to engineering and construction executives and their families as well as event management and technical bid document coordination. My career highlights included traveling to various construction sites and an assignment to South Africa, which was, in one word, amazing! My transition from corporate to caregiving happened in 2009 when my elderly parents required more assistance due to my mother presenting signs of dementia. I chose family over career, moved back “home” and spent several years as their dedicated caregiver. As my parent’s advocate, I gained much knowledge and experience with various health issues, navigating the local health system and clinics, hospitals, LTC and ‘aging in place’ facilities and continuously interacted with various medical professionals. I continued on that path after my return to Calgary, and provided much needed respite and support for busy executive families with a loved one requiring memory care. I was able to develop trusting relationships by demonstrating competency, compassion and exceeding expectations. I believe that a person’s instinct and attitude that fuels nurturing and care can be transferable to any age. When the caregiver adjusts to the client’s needs and environment, communicates effectively and does what needs to be done to make life better, we all win. I do believe that children require age appropriate activities that are fun, educational and stimulating to foster cognitive development and motor skills. Every day should be a positive and creative learning experience to facilitate building vocabulary, confidence and character. I think it is important for children to have daily structure and consistency, giving them a feeling of security and comfort in their environment and enhancing their ability to develop a sense of belonging, positive relationships, independence, and adjust to change more easily. Healthy habits regarding nutrition, hydration, exercise, hygiene and sleep should start at an early age. I am very much aware that children copy behaviors and as adults we need to be intelligent role models. When it comes to caring for people, pets and personal property, I am very focused on safety and security. References have been uploaded and a police background check and a vaccination record can be provided. I also have been driving for many years and have a very good driving record. I am looking for full-time hours; live out or live in depending on client needs. I have a flexible schedule to accommodate evenings, weekends and life’s unpredictability. Thank you for reviewing my profile.

I specialize in care of “people” of all ages!

To whom it may concern, Gayle has been an employee at Proactive Seniors Ltd. since November 2019. In this role she has served as both companion and personal assistant to our clients who are seniors and the families of those seniors. I can wholeheartedly recommend Gayle as an excellent employee and would like to provide the following details on her professional characteristics and her personality. Gayle is a professional in all her actions and interactions. She has consistently demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills in her dealings with our clients, our other team members and with myself. She demonstrates both capability and problem-solving skills and doesn’t let unexpected situations or circumstances block forward movement on a task. When a situation needs fixing, Gayle has been excellent at identifying the problem, researching solutions, discussing it with the client/family, and presenting reasonable options and action for resolution. Gayle is exceedingly patient and tactful, taking the time to build deep relationships with her clients who can be challenging to connect with due to cognitive decline and illness. Gayle has repeatedly gone above and beyond normal expectations in terms of providing our clients with thoughtful and kind experiences and keepsakes. Having been the primary caregiver for her own parents, it is evident that Gayle’s experiences have shaped her understanding and compassion for the challenges and stresses that families who have a senior loved one are facing.
