I have two years of experience in licensed childcare facilities and 1 year of experience in private side jobs in NS. This includes an orientation for licensed facilities and a vulnerable sector/child abuse register check, although the validity may need updating for Ontario. I also possess a valid first aid and CPR/AED level C certification that is active till 2025.
Within these facilities, my roles varied from a preschool teacher mainly to covering breaks, vacations and/or sick days in the kitchen, toddler, baby and school aged rooms. Although my job description could change day to day my main focus has always been prioritizing being a positive and focused role model to all children not only in my care but in my presence.
In high school, I worked as a live-in nanny for two children aged 5-12, alternating weeks. Responsibilities involved preparing and serving meals, helping the children prepare for school, and taking them to and from school. After school, I assisted with homework, encouraged independent play, and prepared dinner. Evening activities included a visit to the park or an indoor activity, followed by bedtime routine, which then was followed by light household chores (at my own discretion, this was not expected of me in this job) as well as prepare lunches for the next day. My focus was to maintain a routine close to their usual one in the absence of their parent while still being sympathetic to their emotional needs during a difficult home transition. I could give a lot more details about both of these experiences. I’m going to keep it short and professional for the sake of a quick read while you skim my profile, but I would like to add there is so much more emotional and even physically that goes into these jobs that is hard to sit
and type a sappy novel about, but if you want to grab a coffee to meet and have any further questions or want to hear a more personal version I’d be more than happy to tell all about my experiences and why the access to affordable and quality childcare for all families is SO important to me!
I was a part time “live in nanny” (stayed every other week for a single father that worked out of town) while finishing my high school. Then moved on to be a partially (OTJ training and orientation to work in licensed childcare facilities course) trained daycare teacher for a year and a half until I moved to where I am now. I am still interested in finishing my education in childcare and plan to finish that journey in the near future but have put a pin in it while I settle into this new province and get back on my toes :)
