I am an active para-athlete working full-time. I require assistance with activities of daily living and am seeking someone dedicated to ensuring my well-being while supporting my pursuit of independence. I am looking for a compassionate and reliable Personal Attendant to provide a combination of administrative support and assistance in my daily life. The person should be mature, organized, resourceful, empathetic, patient, and trustworthy, with a sense of humour and interest in adaptive athletics. I lead an active lifestyle and enjoy adventurous activities; the assistant will be exposed to a fascinating range of activities, and events and will become part of a welcoming, lively, and busy household.
Job Description:
I am seeking a Personal Attendant to provide non-medical personal support services to assist with the following responsibilities:
Personal Care: Occasional dressing assistance, and grooming but mostly supervision during personal care activities.
Mobility Support: Aid with morning stretches, putting on and taking off foot braces, and transferring from a daily wheelchair to a sports wheelchair.
Meal Assistance: Support with grocery organization, shopping, and meal preparation (i.e. opening jars, and cutting vegetables)
Healthcare system navigation: Assistance with healthcare appointments and scheduling Handy Dart rides, as well as managing appointments throughout the week.
Companionship: Engaging in activities and providing support. I frequently participate in adaptive sports like adaptive climbing, wheelchair tennis, and skiing. Accompaniment to activities and events.
Environment: Ensuring a safe and tidy living space. Help with laundry and light housekeeping (i.e. help me empty my Roomba).
Travel: I travel a lot and if you enjoy travelling (costs will be covered) then that would be a bonus. I am looking for a travel assistant, but the duties can be incorporated into this job if you are interested.
Job Requirements:
- Educational or professional background in healthcare or experience with caregiving, is beneficial. If you are studying nursing, PT, OT etc. this is a great way to get some experience from a person with lived experience.
- Compassionate and empathetic demeanour toward individuals requiring support.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate.
- Reliability and a strong sense of responsibility.
- Flexible hours and ability to commit to multiple days a week
- Ability to drive is a bonus
