As her direct supervisor, I have known May Ruth for the past one and a half years, as she has served as a Registered Practical Nurse for my mother who has dementia. Throughout this time, I have found May Ruth to demonstrate the utmost level of professionalism, compassion and dedication. Her resourcefulness, problem solving and ability to deal with circumstances responsibly is truly commendable. She is a wonderful team player and always makes herself available and rises to the occasion when her skills are needed. She has served admirably both individually with someone who is clinically challenging and collaboratively respectful among all parties assuming responsibility for our mother’s care. May Ruth has been instrumental in implementing exercises, diet and activities for my mother, as well as providing oversight for her medications. Responsibly, on several occasions taking the lead of advising when certain symptoms needed attention and going above and beyond the call of duty to help support difficult situations. She has also assisted in every area of personal care needed and played a key role in assisting us in finding the resources that were needed. She has dealt with the challenges of caring for an individual with dementia with great aplomb. As with many individuals with dementia, there are challenges both cognitively and physically. May Ruth not only strategically managed these challenges but also provided the emotional support to help overcome many of them with her formidable patience and quiet demeaner. Her strong work ethic and resourcefulness is matched only by her compassion and empathy for her patients. As a Registered Practical Nurse, May Ruth has built considerable rapport with both my mother and our family members. Her cell phone is on 7 days a week. We have nothing but praise for her dedication. In summary, May Ruth would be a great asset to any clinical work environment. She is highly intelligent; demonstrates unquestionable integrity; and is a kind human being.
