I originally started working for the family as a PSW working for SEHC in 2015.
I went to work for the C's as a private care PSW in 2016 and cared for both Mr. and Mrs. C in their daughter, Anne Marie's home 5 days a week, 7 hours a day.
Mrs. C had had a previous stroke and suffered from severe Alzheimer's Disease. She required assistance in every aspect of her daily life. Mrs. C was a very combative and challenging client due to her illness. I learned a great many skills from this client. In order to calm her and distract her from further agitation it was necessary to research and learn knew techniques in handling people with Alzheimer's. Mrs. C has since transitioned.
I also cared for Mr. C. While living at his daughter's home, I provided some assistance with showering, dressing and food preparation. Mr. C also suffered from dementia but was able to participate in acts of daily living. He then was transferred to the same LTC facility as his wife and then I saw him 2 times a week for 5 hours a day. While at the LTC facility, I would still provide showers and then companion care for the rest of the day.
Currently, Mr. C is awaiting evaluation due to some issues that have arisen at the LTC facility.
