I am a mature, vibrant woman who thrives on life's offerings. I am passionate about everything I do, which also includes my career and the skill that I bring to my chosen path as a certified personal support worker. As a PSW, I bring to the client(s) patience, kindness, compassion and common sense. I was fortunate enough to have worked for a large home care organization (Saint Elizabeth Health Care, SEHC) who provided me with further education and a diverse client base. Therefore, I am comfortable with all forms of care that are expected from a PSW caring for seniors. My skill set is geared towards, but not limited to seniors with dementia, stroke, spinal cord injuries, amputations, mental health issues and of course clients that are palliative. Currently, I work privately in home care settings, providing care to several clients, one of which I have been with for many, many years. With long-term clients, trust and friendship has been established, and the ability to read and respond quickly to their needs is one of my strongest skills. I have been a single mother for many years which offered me the opportunity to fully understand my strengths, gifts and abilities, along with understanding and accepting my weaknesses. It provided me with skills around money management, household management and sole child rearing. The many challenges I faced through those years brought me to a place of self-acceptance, nurturing and a compassion towards not only others, but also myself that would never had been reached through normal means. In my private time one of my passions is practicing yoga. Although it is much more than exercise, yoga has transformed me physically, mentally and spiritually. I also utilize this practice in my work through breathing techniques and exercise practices provided to the client. I have many hobbies that I share with family, friends and also strangers. I create and distribute hand drawn mandalas and also hand made mala prayer beads. Both forms of art are essentially different forms of meditation and come from a couple of eastern religions/philosophies that I am drawn to. This creativity flows over and into my work whether it be through art projects created together with the client or simply by opening a conversation about mindfulness and art. I am also a certified Master Reiki practitioner. Reiki is an ancient healing modality provided through energy transference. The main reason for taking courses in Reiki was to be able to provide this service to my clients. It is non evasive and is simply practiced by placing ones hands on the client. It helps to relax and harmonize the body. I am charming, friendly, healthy and very kind towards everyone I meet. There are many things I can bring to a position as a PSW, but there is truly only one way to see this for yourself and that would be to meet me in person.

I originally started working for the family as a PSW working for SEHC in 2015. I went to work for the C's as a private care PSW in 2016 and cared for both Mr. and Mrs. C in their daughter, Anne Marie's home 5 days a week, 7 hours a day. Mrs. C had had a previous stroke and suffered from severe Alzheimer's Disease. She required assistance in every aspect of her daily life. Mrs. C was a very combative and challenging client due to her illness. I learned a great many skills from this client. In order to calm her and distract her from further agitation it was necessary to research and learn knew techniques in handling people with Alzheimer's. Mrs. C has since transitioned. I also cared for Mr. C. While living at his daughter's home, I provided some assistance with showering, dressing and food preparation. Mr. C also suffered from dementia but was able to participate in acts of daily living. He then was transferred to the same LTC facility as his wife and then I saw him 2 times a week for 5 hours a day. While at the LTC facility, I would still provide showers and then companion care for the rest of the day. Currently, Mr. C is awaiting evaluation due to some issues that have arisen at the LTC facility.
