To prospective families: My name is Amy and I am 35 years old from Dundas, Ontario. Please consider me for the position of a caregiver/companion for your loved one. I am a very compassionate and friendly elder care provider, looking for new clients. A little about me, I graduated from Recreation and Leisure Services from Mohawk College. While there, I gain the knowledge and skills needed to work with the elderly and different types of disabilities. From there, I worked at St. JosephÕs Villa in the Day program, planning and implementing different types of programs for my clients. They ranged from early 20Õs to the late 90Õs, some of which had early set AlzheimerÕs, Stroke effects, visual impaired and as well as clients with Acquired Brain Injury. It was a rewarding job and I loved what I did. Eventually, my contract ended and I became a caregiver to an elderly woman once she moved into a Retirement Home. I would take her to the grocery store, pick up her medications and take her to the doctors, just to name a few daily requirements for her care. Today, I work part time with a man in a Retirement Home that has Down syndrome. HeÕs 57 and he lives with his mother. During time with him, we go for outdoor walks and when it gets cold, we walk indoors, ride the stationary bikes, play a variety of different games and activities to keep him busy and entertained. Also, we go on outings to the grocery store, and bowling among other activities outside the retirement home. I have been involved in Seniors since I was 12 years old. I started off volunteering and providing Recreation assistance to staff in a Nursing Home. From there, I got a job in the same facility as a "Student Feeder" Which I transported residents to and from meals and provided assistance to those that were not able to feed themselves. I graduated from Mohawk College in the Recreation and Leisure Services program. From there, I started to volunteer again at a different nursing home, which landed me in a Maternity Position in the Adult Day Program at SJV working as a Therapeutic Recreationist. Once that position ended, the following year I was rehired as a TR in another group in the Day Program for about 5 years. (Contract Position) I then became a caregiver to an elderly woman once she moved into a Retirement Home.
