I have spent the last 11 months as a Certified Rehab Assistant for Salem Manor Nursing Home (SMNH) and a couple of months for Wentworth Manor (WWM). I also had hands-on experience at PARP (Post Acute Rehabilitation Program) at St. Michael’s Health Centre in Lethbridge; CAR (Community Accessible Rehabilitation) program at Peter Lougheed Hospital; Inpatient Neuroscience at South Health Campus and the job has prepared me for St. Joseph's Health Centre. For instance, at SMNH and WWM I supervise individual and group exercise programs like strengthening, walking, balancing, range of motion, fun and fitness, modalities and assisting in TLR (Transferring, Lifting, Repositioning), and other recreational activities to provide physical, mental and social well-being. Especially, in my evaluation summary, my clinical supervisors wrote “Jerome is a hard worker and a very strong Therapy Assistant student given his knowledge base and his life experience. He will be an asset wherever he works”. I have a medical education background with 14 years’ experience in the healthcare service and have worked as a physician for a Leprosy Center in Vietnam.
