  About Me

April 14th 2019- I am PSW, looking for a live-in caregiver role in the Lower Mainland (preferably Coquitlam Surrey/Langley/Whiterock/Abbotsford ) area of British Columbia.
I graduated in 2013, and began working in retirement communities around the Greater Toronto Area (where I am currently living), eventually moving to the administration side, and assisting families and their loved ones to make the 'big move' to a seniors community.

I am now making my own 'big move' across the country, and would love to help a family, while I myself, settle in the area.
While I have been employed by larger
"homes", and supported many residents at once, I have spent the last several months, assisting a family member at her personal home, while she has been receiving chemo (among other care-needs), and was no longer able to live alone.
This situation is what has made me decide to seek families who are in need of this type of assistance, where there may not be the option to move into a retirement community.
I am comfortable with all aspects of personal care, and have a lot of experience supporting people living with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, as well as their families. I have volunteered for a while with the Alzheimer Society, and received my certificate in Gentle Persuasive Approach. I have made many connections with seniors in my communities, and am generally able to adapt to any religious or cultural background, to put people at ease.

I was born in Quebec, but raised in Ontario, so I speak English, and conversational French, and appreciate the Montreal Canadiens- but only tolerate the Leafs.
I enjoy watching and playing sports, camping, hiking, and I am comfortable with the care and upkeep of (most) pets.
I live my life with a smile, and love to help anyone I can. After my move out west, I would like to continue to volunteer, and involve myself with the local community.
Since everyone's personalities are different- and this is highlighted more so when dementia is involved, I would request a video chat to make sure we are a good fit for each other.
While dementia- care is my main focus, I am open to child- care, as well as house keeping or a combination of these.

My move dates is flexible, as early as mid-May to September 2019.

  Work Experience & Education Background

5 years experience, 2 references
I have experience in both child- and senior-care over my career.
I have been a camp counselor in Quebec and Ontario, for programs such as arts, skating, and roller-blading, but most recently, my experience comes as a Personal Support Worker (Nurse's Aide/Health Care Assistant), for seniors in retirement communities.

I do not have children of my own, though, I do have a lot of experience with children of my own friends, and cousins. While I would prefer to assist those who might be struggling to find proper support for the aging adult in their life (as this I believe this sometimes is very hard to find), I am very much a people-person- of all ages. I grew up in a home-daycare and summer student environment, where many of those children (now adults. ) still keep in touch with their "2nd family".

In both scenarios, I am there to be supportive of the wishes of the families, in the way the child is raised, or in the way the adult is provided care.
