My experience in adult service care was with my mother. She became very ill after being diagnosed with Hypertension and Diabetes put together. She was admitted to the hospital at one point with some complications and retaining too much fluid, they had to use a urinary catheter to help to release the fluid and she was bed bound. This is when I took charge to help to nurse, assist and support her emotionally and physically back to good health. Even though the hospital staff was there to do the job, my mom wanted me to provide the services each day.
I gave her a bath daily, change her clothing, and bed linen and groom her to bring back light to her face, I am there to change her diaper and keep her clean. We talked just about everything about life and family and gratefulness. See, my mom had a steadfast relationship with God. I talked with the doctors and nurses about her condition daily and how her improvements were coming along. I brought her favorite fruits and juices and food where possible for her to enjoy once allowed.
This experience is so dear to me. My mom suffered a mild stroke in 2021 and I had to quickly fall in place of taking care of her, seeing that I am the only daughter she has. The whole journey had thought me, from only eating soft food, using diapers, and being dependent on my brother and me to assist her with everything. I learned a lot through research and talking with the doctors at my job about her condition. Today, I am thankful to God that my mom came out of this ordeal victorious and strong. The scriptures have this saying; "Once a man, twice a child" Our parents and loves ones need our help in a time when they are unable to. I believe the care and support I was able to give my mother, I can also give and provide for others in need.
