I love being around children and have always gravitated towards them. I was raised with my mother running a daycare out of our house, so I am very comfortable around children of all ages. At the age of 12, I started babysitting the neighbourhood children and my nieces/nephews. I also assisted/taught swim lessons for about 6 years. I then went to Iowa State University for elementary education and volunteered at a local school with an after school program for underprivileged families.
After I left school, I decided to follow my other interests or shall we say dreams, which was travelling and exploring the world. Over the past 7 years I have travelled across the world and lived in 3 other countries. Because of this, I have grown as a person and learned by experience. I met my significant other while travelling, and we have lived in Sydney, Australia over the past 5 years. I also furthered my studies while in Australia but more in the health spectrum side of things.
As you can see, I have a variety of interests and can adapt to most situations. I am outgoing, bubbly and have been told I can be a bit of a Chatty Cathy at times. I love being outside, walking and doing activities but I also enjoy being indoors, working on a project or reading a good book.
My experience with the elderly has been mostly within family. Until recently I was working full time with an elderly man suffering with functional dementia. Our days consisted of functional exercises, simulating conversation, and healthy meals. More of my responsibilities would be making sure he was taking him pills, eating and drinking regularly, and helping with any accidents.
I studied fitness with special population which included over people over 60 and remedial massage therapy with emphasises ageing conditions of the body. I may lack in experience at the moment but I am very patient, attentive and a compassionate person. I am a very hard worker and will learn/observe what needs to be met and meet those needs with care.
