I am an internationally educated nurse and a experienced caregiver, seeking for a caregiver position. I am hardworking with high level of initiative, trustworthy and responsible. I can able to work independently, flexible and patient. My educational background and my work experiences honed me with efficient skills delivering quality care to clients and trained me how to adapt well to a challenging work environment.
My years of experience mostly evolved in elderly care. I worked for 2 years as a nurse in my home country, Philippines before moving to Singapore where I worked in a nursing home, catering residents with different and complex medical conditions. Through my nursing education and work experience, I have developed a strong skill in providing care, deal with multiple residents with multiple health condition, and meeting their healthcare needs and performing tasks within this defined scope of practice. Some of these roles were: assisting the residents in carrying out various basic care needs like bathing the residents (trolley bath and commode bathing), assisting them in their grooming needs, attending to their toileting needs and changing their diapers as needed, serving them the recommended meal correctly and assisting them as needed, helping them with their mobility using different techniques and equipment like the hoist machine or sara stedy lift, turning and positioning bedbound residents, and ensuring their safety at all times. We were tasked to perform some procedures as well like NGT feeding and colostomy care. I also developed how to proficiently handle difficult situations with residents and their family members, reporting this accurately and professionally to the staff nurses and taking appropriate actions and interventions delegated by my supervisors. This job also enhances my skill in giving care with compassion to the elderly as well as sharing the simple joys with them, even just those tiny victories and progress in their health. Furthermore, working there honed my skills in assessing and it enhances my knowledge in understanding the physical and behavioral changes in elderly. Assessment plays a vital role in identifying the specific needs of a person and how we can properly address it. Most of our residents have health problems that debilitates their normal functions, who cannot or may not be able to verbalize clearly how they feel or what they need, so a proper assessment serves as a great tool to properly address their needs. I learned the need to do things ethically and to properly report and accurately document observations and incidents that arise during my care. It was a demanding work and a fulfilling one.
