My name is Farista and I' m a university student at MacEwan, studying biology. I live with my mom, dad, and eight-year-old brother. I am nineteen years old and looking for a job I can do while I go to school. I really enjoy working with children and I enjoy being busy.
I' m also very industrious, energetic, intelligent, and focused. I have good gross motor skills and fine motor skills. More importantly I' m kind, empathetic, patient, and I believe in making sure everyone feels cared about, valued and safe.
I have a lot of experience working with children from years of working as a day camp assistant with the City of Edmonton and with the Telus World of Science. I also have babysat my brother' s friends and kids I met at day camp, and I have a lot of experience looking after my brother and younger cousins. Children are so amazing and it' s really important for me to make sure they feel safe, comfortable, loved, welcome, important and just. happy. I also try to teach them about stuff like science and history too but like, in a way that' s still fun.
I enjoy volunteering. I volunteer at special events with the city, where I have to be on my feet a lot, cheerful, focused, energetic and organized. I have to keep the area clean, explain the activity to people, especially children, and answer people' s questions while being friendly and approachable in the midst of an ever-flowing ocean of people. I volunteer at the garden at Ft. Edmonton which means I have to be very focused and also strong. I' ve pulled weeds, spend hours shovelling mulch into wheelbarrows, and also spread mulch. I' ve volunteered at the Heritage Festival where I' ve worked incredibly busy twelve-hour shifts.
I am an amateur writer and I publish on Wattpad. I' ve written short stories and poetry, and I' m working on a novel I' ve written about 100 pages for which I started last year. I' m not too popular was a writer but I really enjoy it. I also really enjoy telling stories and hearing them.
I' ve baked 470 frosted mini cupcakes with almost no help in the span of two and a half days and they were amazing. Also I' ve baked 300 shortbread cookies in eight hours and the only help I got was that my mom put them in the oven and took them out sometimes. I made these for a group I used to be a part of called The Blessings Project and we handed them, along with other food, out to people struggling with homelessness.
I am really passionate about social justice. I care about things like democracy, ending poverty, lgbt rights, Climate Change, ending racism, ending sexism, ending ending ableism, ending homophobia, ending xenophobia, and stuff like that. Just, I' m passionate about human rights in general. I want to live in a world where everyone is safe, healthy, free, educated, and happy and I' m willing to work for such a world. I follow organizations like Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Global Citizen, Freedom United and World Vision.
Up until a few months ago I was a ballerina. That requires an incredible amount of control over every single part of your body and a good relationship between your cerebellum, your cerebrum, and your sensory and motor neurons. In layman' s terms, it means your brain and your body need to be really in sync and work together really well.
I also like reading, especially realistic fiction about important historical or current events. But unfortunately I don' t get as much of a chance to read as I want.
I' m really eager to start a job. Anything goes honestly. I' m looking for a little but if money on the side but more then that I' m looking for work experience and a chance to learn new skills and improve the skills I have.
I've done stuff around my own house including cooking, sweeping, dusting, mopping, washing windows, making beds, and tidying up since I was young. Also I have a lot of experience cleaning and tidying up from volunteering.
I' m focused. I have good fine and gross motor skills. I' m a very fast learner. I' m good at following instructions and I have good attention to detail.
Once I baked 300 cookies in eight hours with barely any help (for a group that helps homeless people) and they turned out good.
I have a lot of experience with following complex instructions very well. In university when I' m doing labs I usually need to follow specific instructions, and to measure, mix heat, cool, and centrifuge things in very specific ways. I had to do all this quite fast and under a lot of pressure. The skills I learned there can be applied here because it means I have very good attention to detail, I' m precise, I' m mindful, and I can work under pressure and time constraints.
I' m also a good gardener, and I' ve weeded a 14 meter x 14 meter field with five other people and some of the weeds were literally up to my shoulders. This means I can work fast, I' m a hard worker, I' m industrious and I' m focused.
I' m a fast learner meaning if you tell me something just a couple of times I' ll remember it. I' ve learned the basics of archeology in like, five minutes and was able to then teach it to other people. I had to do that once for a volunteering gig at Ft. Edmonton Park.
I have worked for a year for a really nice elderly couple. I' ve vacuumed, dusted, polished furniture, helped put up and take down Christmas decorations, and folded laundry. I' ve also washed cupboards, woodwork, walls, windows, and mirrors. Also I have washed decor, loaded the dishwasher, helped make beds, and put things away.
I also help my parents clean their Airbnb between guests. I dust, sweep, do the dishes, and wash things.
I prefer to have someone else to work with but I’m fine with working alone.
