My name is Roisin (pronounced Ro-sheen) and I love working with children. I have a great deal of experience with a variety of ages and abilities, as detailed in my profile. I am family oriented and lucky to have majority of mine in the GTA. My hobbies include cooking, reading and walking my dog. I am a big fan of road trips and hiking. In terms of sports and recreation, I like to swim, skate and snowboard - although my skills are nowhere near professional! I have a positive outlook on life. Looking forward to getting to know you more!
I have experience with a variety of ages from 6 months to adulthood. I have been responsible for bus pick up, meal preparation, personal care, overnight care, homework help and taking children to after school programs. I began my involvement in child care with volunteering for PLASP. Following that, I provided after school care consistently for one individual for 3 years while I was in high school. I still provide occasional respite support to this family and have been working for them on and off for over 13 years. While I was in university, I often nannied part time and provided after school / occasional /overnight care frequently.
Furthermore, I have quite a bit of experience working in Recreation, specifically with the City of Brampton. I worked as an Integration Camp Leader in the summers of. In this role, I would work with ages 4 to 12, often in a 1:1 or 2:1 ratio. I would change camps/ location which allowed me to grow my skills with different age groups/For the summers of 2016-2018, I was a supervisor in the role of Inclusion Specialist. I ran a speciality cooking and day trip based camp the first summer. The following two, I supervised an adult day camp. I also worked as a Program Leader from June 2011 to June 2012 & from January 2015 to August 2017 with the City of Brampton. I spent the summer of 2019 as a summer supervisor at Community Living Mississauga working with teens. This program merged recreation with employment skills. Due to Covid, I limited my work with children and multiple families. From September of 2020, I provided overnight support to an individual with a physical disability and worked with her until April of last year. For the past year, I also worked part-time with two adult men with disabilities but they have transitioned into a group home this past fall so I am no longer needed me as a worker. Additionally, I have worked with a few different families with children (both toddlers and school age) on an occasional/ part-time basis over the last few years.
