  About Me

To whom it may concern,

Firstly, I would like to start by thanking you for taking the time to review my profile.
My name is Leanna and I am a mother to a spunky 4 year old girl named Camille. I was fortunate enough to be able to stay home with her during the 3 years after her birth.
I am interested in finding work as a private nanny because working with kids is not only something that I have a passion for but, I also have much experience in the field. I am able to effectively communicate in both English and French having spoken both languages at home over the past few years.
I started working with children in my early teens as a babysitter. One summer I enrolled in the Counselor in Training Program at Cote Saint Luc Day Camp. In this program I was paired with the nursery group which consisted of pre school aged children.
Following this, I started volunteering at the NDG YMCA in their After School Program. This was a large group of 30+ children from grades 1 through 6. It was an integrated group with some special needs students.
From my volunteer work, which allowed me to work hands on with special needs kids for the first time, I was able to obtain employment as a private shadow for a 15 year old girl with Down Syndrome. She was non verbal, however, she did communicate through hand gestures and ASL. I worked with her in Montreal where my duties consisted of taking her to the movies, La Ronde, or to the park with her best friend who also had Down Syndrome. As well, I accompanied her to Camp B'nai Brith sleep away camp for a 3 week period. I was responsible to help her integrate into the unit, and for the care of all her personal needs.
Following this, I started work at the Westmount YMCA. I started as an on call Animator in the After School Program which quickly led to full time employment. I performed every childcare position available. My greatest accomplishment at the Westmount YMCA was becoming the temporary replacement for the Daycare Coordinator, which happened in my first year.
Most recently, I was employed at a private daycare. I started as on call sub working with all the age groups (pouponnière to preschool aged). After a short period I became assistance educator in the 2. 5-3 year old group. I finished my time at this daycare as head educator of the 2 year old class.
I have learned a lot over the course of these years, having dipped my toes in many aspects of the childcare industry. My overall approach to childcare is one of compassion, kindness, empathy, and encouragement. I truly believe that children are inherently good and given the right creative outlets and positive reinforcement they can truly thrive.
If you were to accept me to be your private nanny you would be hiring someone that is meticulously clean and organized, someone that will truly care about your children. You would be giving your kids the opportunity to sing, laugh, dance, create and most importantly flourish.
Thank you and looking forward to meeting with you in regards to the position.
