I’m a friendly, caring and happy individual who loves both kids and pets. I have a cumulative 2 years of nannying experience and over 5 years of long term experience as babysitter and mother's helper. I am currently a part-time student who works in research and I will complete the rest of my studies part-time. My research job is very flexible so I am seeking a flexible arrangement. Ideally, I would like to be around for the long-term. I do get attached easily and I am not opposed to something full-time in the future once we have established a relationship. As a caregiver, I am not a disciplinarian at heart. I specifically take pleasure in forming a bond with children that is somewhere between friend and trusted adult. I very much enjoy being creative with the kids (arts and crafts, etc) as well as cooking for/with them. I like to include children in cooking duties (even little ones, of course all age appropriate) to prime them with an important life skill - and this is just fun for me so I like to make it fun for them, too. Getting outdoors as much as possible is important to me as well. For the sake of full transparency, I care for kids because above all else, I strongly believe that how we raise our children is how we change the world. While I am not a parent myself (though I hope to be someday), I am very passionate about parenting styles. I am a strong proponent for developing mutually respectful and trusting relationships with children to allow them to naturally develop that same respect for themselves and others around them as well as help them grow into their authentic selves. I believe in teaching children to navigate the world with respect and love through example, to regulate and process their emotions in a healthy and productive way starting from a young age, to be curious and inquisitive learners as to not feel that structured learning is being forced on them, and ultimately be well-rounded individuals through mutual kindness, honesty, understanding and compassion. Children are our future and it is an an honour to be involved in a child’s growth (mentally and physically) and a pleasure to be a source of comfort or fun or happiness for any child. I dont tolerate transphobia, homophobia, racism, ableism, gender essentialism, or hatred of any kind. For example, if you are the type of parent who can’t stomach the thought of their child not strictly adhering to the norms of the gender they were assigned at birth, I am not the caretaker for you. I am a very firm believer in allowing children to be whoever they want to be, on their own terms, and showing them that whoever that is deserves love and respect. Willing to provide a criminal record or driving record check provided the cost is covered by my employer. Willing to provide references on request. Will be childcare-specialized CPR certified as of June 2022. I have a valid drivers license however I try to minimize my time spent in a car and maximize my time walking. Ideally, activities and responsibilities would be within walking distance (I consider anything up to an hour away walking distance) of my employers house. My ideal employer lives within walking distance of myself (near the bell center, so anywhere in griffintown or downtown is great exercise for me) but I am more than willing to travel by metro for the right family if necessary. I am anglo but I understand and speak French at an intermediate level. I want to work on my French communication abilities so I am very open to any situation in which your child(ren) and I can learn from each other.
