Dear Family:
My name is Karla. I am from El Salvador. I have 3 beautiful sons, yes all boys.. my oldest is 16, 14 my middle one and my little one is 8.
My native language is Spanish but I speak fluently English.
I love traveling. When I was studying I lived for a year in Mexico. Afterwards I got married and now we enjoy going to Miami and Disneyword, Orlando from time to time. My kids love it.
I excel in the organization of my house and I think that discipline is indispensable and
should always be done respecting the individuality of each child. That has made my
children feel safe, very loved and special.
I first studied Bachelor of Communications and at that time I started working as a volunteer in a low-income community in my country. It was there where I fell in love with children. I was able to help single mothers and give them strength and support with their babies to get ahead. With the training that this organization provided me, I learned about early stimulation and the importance of breastfeeding. It was my first training as cared for newborns.
After this experience I decided to obtain my degree as a preschool teacher. Through
these 13 years I have learned to teach children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, children with sensory integration disorder, children who find it difficult to adapt to changes. I have discovered in all this time, that all children are unique and special and that the most important thing for them is to feel loved and accepted.
I specialize in Montessori method, and this method is wonderful, it helps them to build autonomy and self-discipline. I have worked most of this time at ages 8 months to 8 years old. Also I have "Birth to Three Assistants course Certificate" issued by AMI.
I have worked at Hollyburn in the PreScholars program as a teacher in the mornings and the daycare in the afternoon. After, I worked for 2 years in a Reggio Emilia/outdoor program based for preschoolers and school age. Currently I’m working full time in a private elementary Montessori school. My availability is evenings and summers.
Also, I have been working as a Tutor. One position was teaching Spanish and the other one was helping to improve english reading skills and math for children between 3-6 years.
Besides, I have experience as a nanny. I have the ability to help kids to become independent and keep them interested in learning.
The qualities I look for in a family are:
- Transparent & Open Communication
- Mutual respect
- Family with Positive Values
- Teamwork ( especially in subject of discipline)
- Flexible schedules
I have taken first aid courses and CPR in English and Spanish. I have driven for more than 10 years and I have my driver's license. I have a bachelor as a preschool teacher and my BC ECE and IT certificate.
The personality of the child develops between 0 and 6 years of age; this is the main reason why the family and people who are close to them play an important role. The family will provide the foundation for the child to have the right tools to be successful in life. Having said that, it is very important that the people who are with the children are correct.
The qualities that I can provide are:
- Good health
- Dependability and responsible
- Love to teach little children
- Self-confident
- Mature
- Knowledgeable about children
- Good manners ( I like to act in a courteous manner)
- Respect for the privacy of families by not going through closets and personal possessions.
- Adaptable
- I am very safety conscious ( I have 3 boys. :D)
- Patient
I really enjoy working with children. Bring tears to my eyes when I witness seeing what they can achieve for themselves. I have the ability to provide a correct environment to develop their independence and self-control.
I am open to light housekeeping, errands, bathing, shopping (groceries), easy meal preparation.
I firmly believe that each child is different, so my knowledge will be adapted to them; always respecting their individuality.
"The child, making use of all that he finds around him, shapes himself for the future"
Maria Montessori
Respectfully yours,
Karla
