Hello, My name is Meilang. I grew up in California but have spent most of my life in Canada. I am graduating from UBC with a BA this May and have been accepted to the UBC BEd program for Fall of 2022, as I plan on becoming an elementary school teacher. I love reading, baking, play games, crafts, and ballet and I enjoy doing such activities with children.

I am currently completing my Bachelors of Education from UBC. I worked with kindergarteners but I have experience working with children from 1.5-12 years old. My most recent job was working as a kids activity leader for the YMCA and I took care of children (5-12). I helped provide before and after school care which involved walking the kids to and from school, planning and implementing various activities, playing both indoor and outdoor games, preparing and serving healthy snacks, and cleaning. I have valid Emergency Child Care First Aid, CPR-B, and AED training. I am willing to obtain Standard First Aid, if needed. During the summer of 2017, I volunteered at a children’s language camp at UBC. I worked with children from 5-11 years old and played games with them, read to them, helped them with crafts, and assisted them with writing. In a past job I took care of a 4 year old girl and occasionally took care of her and her 6 year old brother too. I did light housekeeping, walked the girl to music class and gymnastics class, played imaginary games with her, and dropped her off at her preschool. When taking care of both children, we played games, I prepared lunch for them, and took them outside to places like science world and the aquarium. I have also been a nanny for a 5, almost 6, year old boy for a little over 4 years. I read and sing to him. I play with LEGOs, Playdough, and games with the boy. I also take him out to the library, bookstore, playground, etc. References are available upon request.

On behalf of the Language Camp for the summer of 2017, we would like to thank Meilang for contributing 40 volunteer hours to our program. Our volunteers assisted in numerous ways. They lead languages activities, set up games and ensured that our young campers were engaged at all times. Most importantly, the volunteers helped to create a positive and fun learning environment. If you have any questions regarding the volunteers placement with our program, please do not hesitate to contact Grace, Felicia or Stephanie via email. Sincerely, Grace., Felicia., Stephanie.
