Hello prospective families!
I am an engaging 27 year old living in East Vancouver, I made the move back to BC after completing my undergraduate degree in Modern Languages and Cultural Studies. Since then I have worked with youth aged 5 - 17, first at the YMCA through the Youth Leadership development program, and most recently as a leader for a before and afterschool care program.
I believe in play - both structured and unstructured, inviting kids and youth to explore the world around them, and creating a safe space for all!
Some of my interests include: spending time in nature, playing games - such as spot it, sardines, uno and speed, crafting, and riding bikes!
I look forward to getting to know your family, and am comfortable working with up to 3 children at a time. Critical to my childcare ethos is the idea of healthy bodies and healthy minds, open communication, and learning through experiences.
I have about 11 years worth of experience with children. From Guide camps, babysitting as a youth, and caring for my nephews.
I was a member of the Girl Guides of Canada for 10 years, where I assisted with aiding younger Guides in daily camp chores/ activities. In my later years as a Guide, I began creating culturally relevant camp recreations (the four main guiding centers around the world, Canada day, etc). Additionally, I volunteered to assist the Brownie leaders (Brownie age 7-8) with the weekly meetings and their activities (tag games, arts and crafts).
In my youth, I worked as a babysitter for several families (not all of which are listed); two of which spoke English as a second language.
The first job I held was looking after two Afrikaans children aged 1 and 3 years old. I was in charge of playing with them during the day, or working in the evenings putting them to bed. These children spoke no English, so I bridged the Language barrier through miming or puppets.
The other bilingual family spoke French, they had three children ranging from infant, toddler and school aged. I looked after them for two years as needed. I was in charge of keeping them entertained, helping with bits of school work, making two healthy meals a day, and getting them to bed on time.
All of the Children I have looked after through out the years have been of different ages and genders.
Most recently, I cared for my two older nephews (7 and 10). I was responsible for making three healthy meals a day, keeping them active and entertained, and completing mid-level housework.
