I was born and raised in Taiwan in a family with five other siblings. My father was a civil servant for more than four decades until he retired at the age of 65. My mom was a homemaker. But she took up some labor job for over 10 years to help support the family finances when Taiwan was a country in poverty. But they both managed to sustain the family and gave the children ( six of us) fine education the best they could. They both passed away respectively at age 86 in 2016 in Taiwan. My years in Canada before they were gone enabled me to see and appreciate how much and deep my parents' love was for me. I have learned what aging is about from my parents during their aging process and learned how to assist them in their day-to-day activity. I first came to Vancouver in 1997-1998 for a certificate program on interpretation at Simon Fraser University. After I completed the school, I went back to Taiwan. It was until September of 2011 that I came to Vancouver again. It was again for the purpose of receiving higher education. I studied at Regent College, a post-graduate theology college, for four years ( 2011 - 2015). Before I came, I was working for a Singaporean bank, DBS Bank, in Taipei (the capital city of Taiwan) on Corporate Communications. It was when I was about to receive a second promotion at the job that I began to think that I needed higher education in order to impact more on the job. So, struggling between job promotion with an ever attractive salary and receiving high education in a foreign country, I decided to choose the latter one. So I came to Vancouver to study again. Just I never thought that I would reach this far: into a totally new territory where and when I am in need of searching a job opportunity in Canada. It is something which never came to mind before I made this study trip to Canada. I love languages and cultures and interactions with people. I am an Associate Member of STIBC (Society of Translators & Interpreters of British Columbia ). Basically I am a reserved person. I am a workout enthusiast. I started my first workout as a mountain-bike biker when I was about 30 years old. Up to date, daily workout has been one of my daily routines for 25 years: biking, jogging, aerobic dancing and yoga and CrossFit for now. Over time, I find that workouts have trained not just my body, but mind and spirit as well. I started playing piano when I was 45 in Taiwan. But after I came to Canada, piano playing has become a luxury for me. I don't have piano with me now. I do hope that I shall resume piano playing someday soon. I am also an avid reader. Theology training at Regent College has made reading more than a habit for me. It is part of my being, like piano playing and doing workout. I am a person of structure and disciplines. I keep a healthy diet and enjoy simplicity. I see myself a person healthy in body, mind and spirit. I am currently working as a part-time translator with an organic food company in Vancouver and with translation agencies in Taiwan; a part-timer on a housekeeping job. I also teach a kids Sunday School class at a Chinese church in Vancouver. At the same time, I volunteer to serve elders in my church and the Chinese community in downtown east side for a charity organization, Union Gospel Mission, as an interpreter.

At my sister's home in Taiwan: My sister is a certified day-care teacher. She takes care of three small children at home: aged from 8 months to 3 years old. When I visited her, I would help her with her teaching. I am an on-call Daycare assistant in Burnaby. Kids under our care are aged from 18 months old to 3 years old. I am also teaching a group of Sunday School kids aged from 2. 5 years to 12 years at a Chinese church in Vancouver. Besides teaching them the Bible in Mandarin, I teach them to speak and sing in Mandarin. In the class, we also devote some time to playing or doing handiwork or drawing. There are times when I need to assist the young to the toilet and wipe them clean. I interact with their parents, keeping them informed of how their kids learn and behave. I see each child a representative of his/her household. Each child is like a mirror to me. From them, I am learning to see myself at their ages when and how I made my parents joyful, hurt them and grieved them, and how I can be a positive agent in their journey to growth and maturity, in helping them learn to appreciate their parents' love for them, in particular when the world is choke-full of distractions. I also see kids as the symbol of "hopes". In nurturing and developing them, we are nurturing and developing hopes. In caring for children, I see it a way to honor my parents and to extend my memory of them who were and are the best gifts God has granted me. I am also a tutor in legal English to a Mandarin-speaker. Additional Experiences/Qualifications: Translation and interpretation services between English and Chinese Mandarin; Associate Member of STIBC ( Society of Translators and Interpreters of British Columbia ).

(1) National Taiwan University: bachelor's degree, Anthropology ( 1979 - 1983) (2) Advanced Interpretation program: Simon Fraser University ( 1997-1998) (3) Regent College at UBC: Graduate diploma of Christian Studies ( Sept. 2011- Aug. 2015) (4) Legal Interpretation and Translation program: Simon Fraser University ( Sept. 2015 - June 2016) (5) Vancouver Career College: Early Childhood Education (2018-2019 )

My name is Nafisa. Im kind, friendly and somewhat introverted at times. Although I do feel more comfortable being myself when I’m with children as they’re like my kindred spirits- no ego, just love and realness :) I’m looking for some part time nanny work as I have some availability during the week
