"Nanny McPhee meets Mrs Doubtfire meets Mary Poppins" Which is how a friend describes me. I am a caregiver through and through, and truly love working with children. I invite you to view my resume-website for a comprehensive look at my experience, skills and qualifications: janiwittaker. com I believe my broad range of experience will benefit any children in my care, and I can safely say that kids love to hang out with me - we have fun. My focus is learning through creativity, through development of imagination and curiosity. I believe in play as a conduit to development, and I love to help guide children to learn about their capabilities and limits through the challenges of stretching themselves, physically, mentally and emotionally. I am a firm advocate of outside play, imagination play, of learning through storytelling. I also believe in helping children to learn their responsibility to be part of a household through helping with chores, done with a sense of fun whilst giving them a strong sense of value and accomplishment. I have high expectations of good behaviour and of good manners and find children respond to my firm sense of assumption that they will indeed comply with a willingness to rise to those expectations. My entire career has been steeped in helping to bring healthy children into the world. I have been a doula for 33 years, have a 25 year career in fertility and pregnancy, I hold paediatric qualifications and I also ran a teen clinic for many years. I am principally an educator. I have been both an undergraduate and post graduate university lecturer, and have a long career as an international conference lecturer in my subjects. I have been teaching since my late teens, when I taught riding for the disabled, up through my time as an ESL teacher, on to my aforementioned university career. My most recent position has been as House Manager/Nanny for a West Vancouver family, caring for two boys, age 2 & 5. My role is to ensure the house runs smoothly, that the children are safely ferried to their school and activities, and to keep the household running smoothly so the parents have maximum time to spend enjoying their children without the pressure of chores. The husband has recently been made redundant and hs been unable to secure another job, and unfortunately this has also made me redundant. We are all very sad about this, as I have wonderful bonds with both boys. Before that I was with a 4 generation family in Langley Township. I cared for the 87 year old great grandmother, who is bedridden after a catastrophic stroke, and I tutored the 3 great grandchildren, ages 13, 9 and 5. I have worked as the Behavioural Interventionist and Special Education Assistant for the 5 year old with ASD and ADHD. I also helped support the home schooling for the 9 year old (also ASD) and the 13 year old (severe social anxiety) as an SEA. This job thoroughly re-kindled my love of working with children, and so I have extended my Senior Care remit to also embrace Childcare work. When this family relocated to 100 Mile House, I then moved to an Elder care short-term position in West Vancouver, to be nearer to my mother. This position then segued to my current job. If you feel I would good fit for your family, do please feel to ring me directly for an informal chat. My number is on my website. I look forward to hearing from you.
