  About Me

Thanks for taking the time to consider me. My name's Ben. I grew up with 4 brothers and sisters in Ottawa's West end and went to Bell High School in Nepean. While managing the gifted program's university level courses, I was an active member of many extracurriculars including leadership camp, varsity soccer and student council.
I found that my involvement in really helped me out of the shell in which I entered high school. I had followed through on my original plan to study theatre arts and pursue a career in the entertainment industry, completing my 4-year Bachelors of Fine Arts degree at Laurentian University. It was through the connections I made in that city that showed me that what I have always loved about acting is the opportunity to connect with audiences.
I have always loved making people laugh as well as giving them a space to vent, to put into space just what's on their mind. I am very easy-going, but I know my boundaries and I respect those of the people around me.
Since relocating back to Ottawa from Sudbury I keep in shape by playing rec league soccer and softball, and hope to one day get into Teacher's college. But to be able to use what I have learned working to establish connections? To communicate through multiple forms of expression? To evaluate my audience and use that perspective to discover what makes these people laugh? Cry? That skill coupled with positive reinforcement gives me the confidence to help your children achieve anything with understanding, with a guiding hand to ensure success
Children want to be understood, and I love working to give them a safe environment where they can discover and explore freely.
Hoping to hear from you.

  Work Experience & Education Background

1 years experience, 1 references
I have worked as an unpaid nanny for 1 child on several occasions (on occasion babysitting 2 children) in the last year that I lived in Sudbury before COVID-19 shut down my workplace. Having befriended 2 of my many coworkers at Lot 88 Steakhouse whom had children, I found myself spending more and more time at their houses and getting to know their kids. By November 2019, a routine soon became established where my showing up at the house before and after work meant I could just walk in and know that Naliya would smile when she recognized who it was coming through the door. With that developed closeness between myself and Naliya's family I familiarized myself with the routine her single father, Dillon, had begun to construct. It became easy to transition into more roles as her caregiver, including her cook (especially when it came to serving cut-up fruits she wasn't eager to eat. ) and her diaper changer, not just her friend who helped play with her to give her exercise and stimulation. Soon I was watching both Naliya and the child of my and Dillon's fellow coworker Tyrell and his ECE girlfriend Karissa: Kaméhya. Both children were born 2 weeks apart in March 2019 but by their first birthdays Karissa had begun imparting upon me the finer knowledge she had used with Kam: what to let them discover, how to babyproof a room, and what to look for in their behaviour to know growth is being encouraged. By July I could get the attention of both and keep them busy and stimulated for whole afternoons while dads ran errands. I love this work, and it brings me such joy to know these kids love me. I keep them on a schedule, read body language as well as encourage communication to assess what causes behaviour changes, change diapers, give baths, feed, and put kids to sleep. When we're playing, "we" are playing, because they need role models to follow, but they don't need to know the work I do to keep them away from both danger and trouble.

Childcare experience within the following age groups:
1 - 2 years
Education/Training:
Bachelor's Degree
In addition to on-hand experience with an ECE worker, I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Laurentian University, Cum Laude, in the summer of 2018. Without downplaying the work done in ECE programs to prepare their students for dealing with little ones, the work in improvisation, audience engagement, and schedule memorization has proven to be critical in taking care of children.
