I love working with children and it is clear through my work and volunteer experience. The only thing I love as much as working with children is travelling, and so I’ve combined the two many times. I’ve volunteered at daycares in Peru, created 2 charities and supported a small community in the Dominican Republic with clothes, shoes and diaper bag supplies, and I nannied the same little girl for 4 years, following them to Florida to work there for a year. I understand the importance of play and I love supporting that and building on children’s interests with fun and educational activities.

Au Pair

For four months I lived in Barcelona as an Au Pair. I performed similar duties as a nanny here in Ontario. I lived with the family. I was expected to do light cooking and cleaning and of course care for the child. I prepared breakfast and lunch for the child and put him down for naps. We made sure to always spend lots of time outdoors. I created activities based off of his skills and interests which at the time included building towers, knocking towers over and learning how to walk without using surfaces to brace himself! The child was one year old.

Nanny

For years I was a nanny for a lovely little girl. I was expected to prepare meals, cook, clean, prepare activities and of course care for the child. I was responsible for putting her down for naps and bed time as well as wake ups and some mornings. Some days I would pick the child up from daycare and school, and drive her to extra curricular activities. I would prepare all meals for the child and include her in the process. Together we played lots of games, did lots of crafts and spent many hours outside on scooter adventures and swinging at the park. I was a nanny for the child from the time she was 6 and a half months to 4 and a half years.

Volunteer

Twice for 2 weeks I went to volunteer at very poor daycares in some of the most poor areas outside of Peru’s capital, Lima. I helped the teachers create activities for the children such as letter matching, fine and gross motor skill activities, number crafts and just fun painting and colouring crafts. I brought an abundance of supplies from crayons and construction paper, toys and bubbles to hand sanitizer and wet wipes.
