  About Me

To Whom It May Concern,

My name is Brigette and I am writing this summary to express my desire to work with people with disabilities as well as elderly people in the community.

I was diagnosed with a learning disability early in elementary school. I was told that I had ADHD and Dyslexia and I struggled daily in school with reading and comprehending. In those days there was not as much information regarding these two learning disabilities so I was constantly ignored and admonished by my teachers. They would put my chair in the corner away from the other students and that had a very negative affect on my personal worth and confidence. The teachers would often call my mom requesting that I be put on medication and my mom refused as she did not believe that drugs would have an overall positive affect on me. For several years I was bullied and cast out from my class mates and singled out by teachers in shaming and criticizing in front of others.

After about five years of this emotional and verbal humiliation my mom agreed to try me on medication however the side effects were not very positive so I stopped the medication. In those early and formative years of elementary school I feel that I developed a deep empathy and understanding for people who experienced different types of disabilities and I carried those feelings right through into my adult years.

When I was twelve years old my mom gave birth to my sister with Down Syndrome. I felt an immediate connection to her and I still do to this day. My mom raised us to be accepting of others and I especially saw how people reacted to and treated my sister. I was always protective of her and proud of her.

My life has seen many challenges and pain yet I continue to be positive and compassionate of others. I have been close to my grandparents and cousins throughout the years even supporting them when Dementia and other disabilities that have affected some family members.

I feel I would be a good candidate to work with all ages of disabilities and elderly people I know that I have a lot of compassion and insight and would love the opportunity to work with these special people.

Sincerely,

Brigette
