  About Me

My name is SOCORRO DAHLIA BUENDIA AALTEN, but I am known to employers and friends alike as DAHLIA. I was born on September 23, 1960 in Paranaque, Rizal, Philippines. I am 5 feet tall and weighs 145 pounds. I am married, and the mother of four children, 2girls and 2 boys. All my children are married now. My daughters, age 39 and 37 are both mothers while my sons, age 35 (no child yet) and 31 (have a daughter).

While living in the Philippines, I gained experience working as a dressmaker (sewer), hair stylish, and laundry woman. I was employed as an Accounting Clerk with Maya Tours and Travel for a year. Then I was employed as a Clerk/Liaison Officer in a shipping company (Onboard Marine Exponents Corporation also known as OMEXCO).

Since moving to Hong Kong in November of 1993, I had worked as a Nanny/Caregiver, with three different employers/families, then moved to Canada on March 2006 where I worked as a nanny:

My first job was with a Chinese American family for whom I worked for 3 years from November 1993 - January 1997 as a caregiver to Ms Moo Cheng's blind father as well as being housekeeper until they relocated in Singapore in 1997. I am responsible for Mr Moo Cheng's medications and meals as well as the house chores such as cleaning, dusting, vacuuming, laundry, ironing and keeping updated with groceries & medications.

My next job was with a British family, with whom I worked for 8 years (from April 1997 - March 2005), taking care of their home and their 2 boys since infancy. I have organized playgroups for the children and teach those children nursery rhymes, arts & crafts and learning ABC & 123. I teach the children how to interact with other children like sharing toys, taking turns and playing together as a group. I have love this family especially the boys and treat them like my own children but my employers and myself, both mutually agreed that the boys are becoming too attached to me and dependent on me for everything, so I left their employ in March of 2005.

My next job was with another British family where I worked as a nanny, having started in April 11, 2005. When I joined the family, they had only one son but another one was born in July, 2005. Basically, I am caring for the infant as well as their two and half year old son in addition to doing housework. They are wonderful people, and I feel so fortunate to be working for them. It is hard to leave them, but I had to, because I want to work in Canada, where according to friends of mine, it is a beautiful place and that Canadian employers treat their nannies fairly.

Lastly, I have worked as a Nanny to Ms Gyger for two years (March 12, 2006 - March 15, 2008). They live in South Surrey, BC, Canada. I was taking care of their son, Nathan while both parents were at work. Light duty cleaning is also included such as vacuuming, dusting, laundry, ironing, cleaning bathrooms, cooking for the child and sometimes for the parents as well.

My next job is a part time job: being a house cleaner, office cleaner and commercial cleaner. I am now employed as Cleaning Supervisor at Maple Ridge Chances from 8 am to 4 pm. Occasionally, I am also doing house cleaning depending on my availability.

I have many hobbies like walking, hiking or riding a bike, reading books and recipe books, watch DVD movies and socializing with friends. I am a very easy person to be with and work with a happy attitude. I am hardworking, do my job diligently and efficiently, am trustworthy, and my employers, past and present, consider me to be an excellent cook, very good nanny and an organized housekeeper.

If you chose to hire me, I can assure you that your life will be made much easier because of my approach to making sure that things are done properly and with due efficiency.
