We are looking for a certified personal support worker to provide permanent live-in (preferably) or live-out care for our 78 year old Italian speaking mother with dementia in her home in the Etobicoke area. She lost her husband 2 years ago and the dementia is in the early stages but is deteriorating rapidly. She does not admit or accept her current condition. She also suffers anxiety and depression related to the illness and being alone but otherwise is physically healthy. She is high functioning and still does most things on her own but she cannot continue to live by herself because of safety issues and memory loss. Right now, we are looking primarily for someone to provide companionship and social stimulation. We also require this person to: help with meal preparation, medicine compliance, hygiene, light housekeeping and laundry, grocery shopping, escorting to medial appointments and day programs, social activities and helping to keep her mind active. These needs will evolve as the condition continues to deteriorate. English is her second language but as the condition progresses, her English is getting worse which is why we're looking for someone who can speak and/or understand Italian. We would ideally prefer someone with a valid driver's licence and their own vehicle (and will provide an allowance for this). Otherwise willingness to take public transit or other transportation options is a requirement. Salary is negotiable based on skills, experience, schedule and living arrangements.
