Looking for responsible, friendly, music-loving, confident, patient individual with a strong commitment to disability rights. Prior experience with children with disabilities not necessary. Must be comfortable working in an LGBT household, comfortable around people with disabilities and comfortable working while we work in our home offices. Details of childcare work: Thursdays and Fridays (and optionally if you want every second Wednesday) pick up our wheelchair van from our house (2:15pm) or from a UBC parkade and pick up our 13 year old son from high school at 3pm. He has cerebral palsy and autism spectrum disorder. He is verbal, social, bright, communicative, able to walk with a walker and get in and out of the van by himself. He can get easily frustrated and can be challenging. You would be responsible for driving him to after school appointments or taking him for walks or out for coffee or hanging out and listening to music and socializing with him. Finish at 6pm. He is involved in the final decision-making about his care person. It would also be helpful if you were willing and able to stay with our son when he is mildly ill (eg. head cold) and needs to stay home from school. We would stay with him during more significant illnesses (eg. vomiting). This is negotiable. This position can be expanded to include housekeeping hours. Housekeeping: Looking for an independent, efficient, easy-going, honest person to spend 3-4 hours per day Monday through Friday doing housework/ household care work at our East Van house.
