We are looking for a caregiver for our elderly father who is beginning to require full time assistance to live safely at home. He is a determined, independent person. He injured his back about a year ago. He moved to a retirement home and, with the support of physiotherapy, was able to return home where he prefers to live. My father can still do smaller things such as make tea and a simple snack but he needs someone to serve him two to three hot cooked meals per day. We are looking for someone who will cook and serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, do laundry, and perform light housekeeping while providing him with some companionship. As long as the weather allows my father sometimes likes to sit outside and needs assistance safely going outside. My father is a heavy smoker. He usually smokes his pipe only in the TV room and you do not need to be present when he smokes. In good weather he usually smokes in the garage but not when it is cold outside. The smell of smoke does permeate the house and a person sensitive to the smell of smoke would likely not be able to tolerate it. My father can walk with the aid of his walker and often walks independently in the house. He requires no lifting and can stand with minimal assistance. He is of a very slight build. As we are looking to provide my father with care throughout the week and weekends, we are looking for more than one person. We hope to have one full time person but some part time caregivers might work well to fill in certain gaps. We are very involved with my father. There are 5 siblings so there is seldom a day he does not have a visit from one of us. The house is a modern, well maintained home within a block and a half of a bus stop. It is only minutes from the Lincoln Alexander Expressway and the 403, located on the West Mountain in Hamilton. Three blocks walking distance to grocery and other stores and several churches.
